I have a 2023 Tiguan that I bought used from a VW dealer. When I got the car, it had a recent oil change, and the oil wasn’t green. Later, when I had the oil changed at my local dealer, it still wasn’t green; the service receipt indicated that VW 0w-20 508 oil was used. Not sure what to think.
It is so disillusioning not to be able to trust manufacturers’ recommendations for grade and oci. It seems like there is a lack of hard evidence that 508 fails to protect the engine, but there is also a lack of evidence that 504 or even 502 has caused any harm in engines spec-ed for 508. FWIW...
1) Where did you get the information that Valvoline Restore and Protect Euro is coming to the U.S.? I can’t find anything about it online.
2) Any idea why the 5w-40 would not be “recommended for” VW 502.00?
3) Would the 5w-30 that is “recommended” for VW 504.00 be adequate for cars calling for...
