Duramax traditionally low Fe numbers, because of a magnet?

I've searched and could not find an answer, so I thought I'd ask here due to the knowledge available. I've had a few dmaxs and they always have had very low iron numbers on UOA. Recently I had to repair a lower oil pan and was surprised to find a large round magnet inside. It had a little metal...

LMM Duramax 400k mi; Delo 5w-40 20k mi

Good to see another LMM van still going strong. I have an 09' LMM van that I run oil field service in. Same story, on call 24/7 and need to get out and on the road ASAP. I'm currently at 232,000 miles and a little over 10,000hrs. It spends a lot of time idling. I mostly run Rotella 15/40 with M1...

    2008 Duramax

My work vehicle is a 2009 2500 Express van with the LMM Dmax. I average 6,000-10,000 miles a month with lots of idle time. I've tried several oils from the cheapest to the most expensive with UOA. The cheapest oils reports looked the same wear wise as the expensive oils. I change my oil every...

If idle is to be avoided?

I idle my 2009 Chevy Express 6.6 DMAX van at least 10hrs a day, every day. Running rigs in west Texas and New Mexico I keep it running non stop while I work. Just passed 19,000hrs on the motor and 232k miles, zero issues with the engine. It's sat on location idling a week straight, powering...

    2015 VW Golf Sportwagen TDI

My 13' passat TDI SEL averaged 51-52mpg Hwy, but since the emissions update it's dropped to 38mpg at best and the oil reports show tons of aluminum now. In the last 15k miles it's went from not using oil to using 1qt every 1,000 miles or less. VW really ruined a good car, and now best they can...

What's your avg speed/ OCI in terms of hours?

My work van is an 09’ Chevy Express 2500 with the DMAX. I average 11-12,000 miles and 500hrs between OCI. Lots of idle time, hard running towing 10k, and all in West Texas dust and heat. So far all UOA show almost zero wear.

    bearing wear

I wouldn’t worry about bearing wear due to starts like that. Those HUI injectors use high pressure oil to pop them, so you must have oil flowing before it cranks anyway. Could be as simple as needing a glow plug change. My duramaxs and cummins Fire right up in the cold, but my IDI trucks need...

High zink oil for built high boost cummins?

I was turning it to 4,800rpm, but doubt I’ll go over 4,000 now. Would like to keep the ability to play around a little. Lol.

High zink oil for built high boost cummins?

I need to find a good oil for my 12v cummins. It’s fully built, 16:1 compression, roughly 65psi boost, 140# over stock valve springs with hardened pushrods. Originally built for a drag truck, now it’s in what I want to be a daily driver and tow vehicle. Turned the power down to about 550-600, so...
