Outstanding video on home values now and the future

American political columnist George F. Will wrote, some years ago, possibly when the ACA was in the works, "If you think health care is expensive now, wait until it's free!" Funny, and yet there was a bit of an informal survey here a few years ago. An American BITOGer asked if we Canadians...

2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid Milky oil cap

I wonder if 3 miles each way is so short that the ICE doesn't even operate.

Defence spending in Canada coming closer to 2% of GDP

The Canadian troops took a beating at Dieppe in 1942, a disaster at the time, but later given the face-saving name "Rehearsal for D-Day". The Brits, of course, had already suffered badly at Dunkirk in 1940. Partly as a result of those earlier incidents, the American troops were assigned the...

Defence spending in Canada coming closer to 2% of GDP

I was pleased to see this tribute to Canadians who had made the ultimate sacrifice serving with American forces in Vietnam. Fargo Air Museum, March 2005

This is about as good as it got here - c. 53% coverage, through a moderate cloud layer. Taken by my friend Bert through his welding helmet.

    BITOG Gets Eclipsed!

I'm reminded of an obscure bit of trivia - IIRC, this involved an Olympic gold medal game some years ago, with Canada in the final. At least one Canadian city reported an unprecedented spike in water consumption about two minutes after the end of regulation time, with a tense overtime looming...

    Eclipse 2024 Photo Thread

I think I probably still have my piece of #14 welder's glass from the total eclipse here in early '79 - but earlier today we used the dedicated solar-viewing glasses with mylar lenses.

Hey, @GON, it's been clearly established that if there's a way to misinterpret a thread title, it's MY job. If this happens again, I'm going to the shop steward. ;)

I'm not a big LS fan but this just begs for it....... sleeper city

I don't know, but the German fighter planes of WW2 were fuel-injected, as were some early Corvettes, so mechanical FE was certainly around back then.

What are you reading right now?

"Never" finally came in at the library. Just finished it - very gripping, chillingly plausible. I had read Follett's "Fall Of Giants" a few years ago, and found his explanation of how the European powers blundered into war in 1914 excellent. In the forward to "Never", the author says the idea...

2.7 Ecoboost - An overbuilt beast with a flaw

What was the rationale? Was he thinking the people were attracted by the big displacement more than the actual performance numbers? All to save a few bucks by not equipping the engine with a 4-bbl? Oy ...

    What is this Volkswagen truck?

These were not common here even in the day. I think this was the first one I'd ever seen. I said Saskatchewan, but now think it was Medicine Hat, Alberta. (Lots of miles that day in both provinces.) I'd always assumed the Dodge Rampage was the first FWD-platform-based pickup.
