    Mobil 1, 15w50 discontinued ????????

There has been some rumours floating around that Mobil 1, 15w50 ( red top ) has been discontinued. It is certainly not as easy to find in my area. Any one know the scoop on this ???

    Mobile 1 consumption issues.

I used Mobil 1, 0W-40 on my wifes Jetta since its first oil change. At 30,000 kms approx I switched to 5w-40 Delvac 1 and the oil consumption was cut in half.

    Mobil1 burns off easier?

I was experiencing the same thing with M1,0w-40. I switched to Delvac 5w-40 and my consumption improved dramatically.

Question for engine builders. 60 weight oil

Last night I watched the 'Tuttles' motorbike show on Discovery channel. They were building a chopper for Shelby and the motor was put on the dyno to break in. Well they sized it up and did considerable damage that they came to the conclusion was because they used 60 weight oil and this oil was...

    Top off Delvac1 with M1,0w-40...?????

I recently switched to Delvac 1 from M1,0w-40. It reduced my oil consumption by half and seems to keep its color better. However for top offs during use, any problems with mixing a little M1, 0-40 as I have a few bottles left over and nothing to use them on.

    Mobil 1 0w40 vs Mobil 1 5w40 truck & SUV

I also switched recently from M1,0w-40 to Delvac 1,5w-40 ( reputed to be very similar to the truck & suv 5w-40). This vehicle, VW 2.0, has 35,000 kms and has had the M1,0w-40 since 500 kms. Since switching to the Delvac, at 34,000 kms, I also have noticed the oil is not darkening.

    High viscosity causing worn rings?

I have a bore scope and I have seen two VW water cooled motors that clearly had the cross hatch still visible on the bores after the motor had done just under 100,000 kms. Both these motors were made in the eighties and ran 20w-50 dino oil year round. I have also seen bores worn out in about...

Delvac reduced oil burning in VW.

UPDATE Since starting this post a few days ago, I have added another 500 kms and the oil level is still at the top. With M1, 0w-40 I would have been down 1/2 litre by now. Very interesting.

Delvac reduced oil burning in VW.

Doug, This is my seventh VW and the first that consumed any oil. Yes I have had problems with valve guide seals in the past, but apart from that, 6 of them ran 20w-50, never consumed a drop between changes. 1 litre per 2000 kms ( approx what I am getting )seems very extreme to me and if I can...

    I'm going to dump the M1 T&SUV for a "thinner" 40 weight.

The VW factory representative in Vancouver Canada told me the other day that oil burning in new water cooled motors was perfectly normal as long as it did not get worse than 1 litre per 1000 kilometers. I then asked him who would pay to have my cylinders de carbonized and my catalytic converter...

Delvac reduced oil burning in VW.

I have been very happy with M1,0w-40. No noise at startup, no lifter noise.....all in all an excellent product. I was just concerned about the oil burning and excess carbon build up in the cylinders and catalytic converter problems down the road. Car gets steady freeway 120 kph ( around 70 mph )...

Delvac reduced oil burning in VW.

I drive a 2003 Vw Golf. They have low tension piston rings and are known to burn a little oil. Factory turns a blind eye to this unless consumption gets worse than 1 Litre per 1000 kms. Mine was nowhere near this but I still had to check and top up a couple of times, between oil changes. Since...

    I'm going to dump the M1 T&SUV for a "thinner" 40 weight.

V8Blitz. From reading your post, be very careful to do one thing at a time. The golden rule of modding. One thing at a time.....then check to see if that 'One Thing' has made a positive or negative improvement. From your posts, you are obviously of a very enthusiastic nature. I have seen many...

Using more Oil with M1 EP ?

I use M1, 0w-40 in two late model VWs. Both have around 35,000 kilometers and both were purchased new and have been using Mobil 0-40 since 5,000 kilometers. Both burn a little oil. The worst of the two at around 1 litre per 2,000 kms. This last weekend I switched one to Delvac 1, 5w-40 in the...

    Audi 1.8T requires 0W-30 and VW 1.8T requires 5W040?

Unless I am mistaken, Audi does NOT recommend a *w-30. They say that if you can not find the 5w-40 that they recommend, then the '30' can be used. Anyway thats my interpretation.
