So I got the Michelin Defender 2

We replaced RT43s with CC2s last fall They track a lot better and are quieter. We still run XIce-Snow tires during the winter, but after they wear out, we are going to run the CC2s year round. I did notice a drop in mileage, but a lot of that was summer vs fall. Now that spring is here, mileage...

    Fram XG7317 on 2024 Impreza

The bypass rating is dependent on the filter media. A higher resistance media will require a higher bypass pressure in your oil filter. The bypass rating of 17psi on a Subaru filter does not necessarily equate to the same PSI rating on a different filter. The An excellent comparison of the...

    Acura Oil Consumption

1Q IN 4K is a lot for a Honda of that era. The Hondas that we've had burned 1/2Q in 12K. It won't cause any other problems at that level of consumption. however.

    Fram Ultra or Fram Endurance?

I was impressed with the Youtube videos showing the lower differential pressure at higher flows with the Endurance vs the Ultra, and the greater filtration efficiency of the Endurance. We have Subaru 2.5L engines which have high oil flows. The lower pressure differential means that the bypass...

    Are Hyundais reliable?

Subaru Crosstrek is nearly the most reliable vehicle in the CR list scoring 99/100. Forester is 82/100. Outback is 50/100 (average)

    wix or subaru oem

Our dealer charges $14 for the Subaru blue can. I've been using M1 Fram Ultra or (lately) Fram endurance for a 14-15K OCI, which is cheaper than the dealer.

    Are Hyundais reliable?

Consumer reports rates Kia/Hyundai #10, and #11 out of 30 car brands. The top 6 are Lexus, Toyota, Mini, Acura, Honda, and Subaru. Of the vehicles most likely to make 200K miles, most are large Toyota SUVs, plus GM Tahoe and Suburban, and Ford Expedition. Most all of the are full frame type...

Nice SUV! Use TopTier gas when you can. BP is fine, Sams Club is not. Costco is TopTier.

How old is too old for tires?

I learned my lesson when I was in college. I had a 11 yr old Ford Torino with the infamous Firestone 721, which spent its early years in Florida, and EVERY tire blew out on the highway over a 6 mo period. Firestone would not replace the remaining ones, despite the recall and bad publicity...

    Michelin CrossClimate2 Tires

The Continental AllSeasonContact 2 (test winner) does not appear to be available in North America. Were we live snow and ice performance is very important, so the CC2 still seems to come out ahead.

Synthetic oil question about length of time not miles

Follow the OEM recommendations during the warranty period, then use 1 yr if you short trip or 2 yrs if you take longer (20-30 miles) trips on a regular basis. Change the oil at whatever mileage the OEM says to if its a GDI engine. This should not be that difficult and should cover all but the...

Is buying Oil on Amazon safe?

A few years ago I bought 3 bottle of M1EP from Amazon, which ended up leaking all over my garage. Mobil sent me a refund, even though I just asked for replacements. These days I buy it from Walmart or Meijer, especially since Walmart is the only source for Fram Endurance oil filters.

    2013 Subaru Outback 2.5L, 165K, Mobil 1 EP 0w-20, 13990 miles, Fram Ultra Filter

Yes, an old fashioned PI engine with almost no annoying bells, beeps, and warnings. Subaru isn't selling my location data either. I'm hoping to keep it going for another decade, it still drives very well and just needs an infotainment upgrade to make it near perfect. Our '23 Outback (with DI...

    Long OCI

As long as your extended OCI is backed up by data and you are out of warranty, I don't see any reason not to do it. We use EP oil and appropriate EP filter with a 14-15K OCI on our Subaru port injected NA engine, and 6K on the Subaru DI NA engine (under warranty). We rarely drive less than 15-20...
