    Defy & Liqui-Moly

A while back I posted needing advice about the Subaru piston slap issue and burning oil with smoke on start up. A few of you posted to try Defy and a moly additive. I can tell you unconditionally this worked! I switch up and went from 5w30 to 10w30 and added Liqui-Moly 2020. It's been 3 weeks of...

Quieting The Good Old Subaru Death Rattle

It does get quieter as the engine warms up. The timing w/ water pump was done less than 10,000 miles ago. I noticed a little blue smoke every now and again when it's sat overnight, that stops as soon as I accelerate. I bought the car with 179,000 on it 3 years ago. All the maintenance from the...

Quieting The Good Old Subaru Death Rattle

2000 Forster S EJ251 N/A, 221,700 miles. Uses a tiny bit of oil. I stopped using Mobil 1 5w30 in it last year deciding to drop down to conventional until I got around to fixing leaks and or using oil. With Mobil Super High Mileage 5w30 it's getting the good old death rattle Scoobies are known...

AAP oil change deals - filter pricing

When I left Advance in May it was still what you are describing. The issue is the computer issues a transaction number. When a return is scanned it takes the information from the sale. The filter is part of the package deal. Return the filter, return the oil. Since it was a package deal you have...

    Maintance on 2006 subaru

Belt. Get the kit with water pump. The belt isn't the weak link on Subarus, The idler pulley is.

Looking at a Subaru Forester, oil leak question

Before you pass go to subaruforester.org You can click on the regional forums to see who works on them in your area. The head gaskets and timing won't cost you anywhere near $3,000. The 06 is a great model year and 120,000 is nothing on these engines. My 2000 has 218,000 and runs great.

Looking at a Subaru Forester, oil leak question

I have 2 Foresters. They are very very good cars. The oil leak is pretty much standard due to leaky head gaskets. You may be able to get the price down some if you explain the cost involved in replacing them. Do the timing and head gaskets together. Get the master timing kit with water pump, and...

    Subaru-Any good?

My 2000 just turned 217,000 and my 2004 has 170,000. Aside from the normal Subaru maintenance no issues, and built like a tank. Zero rust since I live in the south. Quality vehicles. Shows in their sales year in, year out.

    Formula Shell

If there are no leaks, oil burning etc....5,000 would be a good interval. I'm using 5w30 in one and 10w30 in the other. Very good oil!

Bosch 9614 or Champion 9812 iridium spark plugs

Go with the OE Denso 3432. You may be paying $9.00 each for them but if they worked for this long, and if you save $11 overall what are you gonna buy? Something that's gonna be gone a lot faster than the plugs. Rock Auto $9.00 each plus ship (which shouldn't be much)

    What spark plugs?

Autolite are the universal American model plug. They have just about as many love / hate opinions as Fram. I have used them before with no issues. This is a half-dozen one or the other deals. Can't go wrong with OE but if you are price conscious then go with the Autolite.

    Ngk ixvs iridium laser

I'm gonna lay odds the person was either selling you a favorite of his or isn't knowledgeable on what is OE. I worked for Advance for 18 years. You are going to find in this day that counter sales people on average are not too keen to what you need. There are many "old school" people in the...

    Ngk ixvs iridium laser

engineer20, what are these for? What car? NGK doesn't offer Laser IX for all cars. He may have given you IX's because that's the top of the offerings for your car.
