I really believe the 6month oil change interval is an overkill on most usage senarios.
Usually they give the 6month interval for extreme use case senarios. So pay attention if they mention 1 year for normal use.
I am sure BMW oil specs include testing for seal and rubber materials compatibility of the oil. I know for sure GM does that with the Dexos spec.
This seems to be the biggest problem with modern engines. So just use approved oils.
If you cannot find them, the next best thing is a high mileage...
The short commutes propably have their toll on the engine. It should last you 10 years though with which I guess you are happy! Just put the thinnest oil recommended by the factory and change it every year as you did.
I do not really believe that any newer engine oil skips on engine protection. It is just that majority of the R&D goes towards fuel economy.
But for anyone with a new car there really is no concern. He will be forced to give up on his vehicle for an autonomous electric long before his engine...

Precisely! Right now you get about 2 to 3 times the universal average on wear metals on a per mile basis (which is what you should care for) while doing ultra low service internals that cost...
You would be surprised to find how many go to BMW dealers. Do not judge by the users here. BITOG is not the average car owner. plus the actual cost for BMW for oil and filter really is peanuts.
One should not put thicker oil because of the oil consumption. Oil consuption is always only a symptom and there is no benefit on treating the symtom. You need to find the cause and decide weather you treat it or not. Having said that, yeah you are burning a lot of oil unless you redline and...

You need to understand that (unless setup is otherwise) the interval is dynamic. In my car I can go close to double the distance if I do a lot of highway mileage compared to mostly city. If you put your car on a track it could ask for an oil change in under 1000 miles.
From my experience, and...

Should have gone with your instinct...oil survived, but that's about it.
Like the instinct is good for what? Meassuring oil and coolant temps? cold starts? fuel consumed...

This report, for what it is, is simply great! I would simply use a long life engine oil and oil filter and keep changing at 20K miles intervals. Especially if your friend has limited time availiable and does a lot of driving. This Tundra engine is set to exceed 600.000 miles as it sits.

Do you have an oil life monitor on your Ford? If so what was the reading? You can use the oil life monitor to remove all of the guesswork. It takes into account idle times, cold starts, high rpm/full throttle among other things as long as you have it on the smart setting and not the dump (km...
If an engine shows exceptional wear rate, being new makes the feat even more impressive not questionable. If you take into account the left over oil wear metals, actuall wear is negligible. Like 2ppm-1000miles of iron for an engine that is still green and is tracked.
Also, when the results of...
But viscosity is also temperature related. The following is the first chart a google search gave me. So in reality the difference is not so great because 10F do make a difference in viscocity as well. Also bare in mind that HTHS is meassured at 150C and Mazda is ok with that number. But there is...
