Using 5w30 in a engine speced for 0w20?

Well, you could run the MI Extended Synthetic 5w-20 which I believe has slightly higher viscosity numbers towards the high end of the 20w range. Just a thought. Not implying you change it at a longer interval.....just for the viscosity and extra additives perhaps.

    M1 0w-20 SL vs. M1 0w-20 SM

I bought up a lot (26 quarts) of the M1 0w-20 SL when I heard they were going to discontinue it about 2 years ago and now I've read here that they have come out with a SM version of the oil. What are the major differences between the two regarding additive packages and is the new 0w-20 a PAO...

Oil Change Interval for Low Mileage Use?

Yeah, I've heard a lot of folks like and so well on the Rotella and even their 5w-40 syn. I just like the 4T M1 anf it runs well in my bikes. I think we're both crazy on running out bikes...lol. A friend with a HD Nightrain was trying to outrun me on the Busa in FL on a 4 lane rurual highway...

Oil Change Interval for Low Mileage Use?

I like the M1 racing 4T for all the reasons you mention. I also use it in my '06 Kawasaki Vulcan. Same situation as the car. The don't put on many miles during the riding season. The Busa runs hot (and fast...lol) and the extra $$ for the 4T to me is not a significant issue since I am only...

Oil Change Interval for Low Mileage Use?

I changed out the initial oil at 1200 miles to get ride of any engine debrie and wanted to run the M1 0w-20 after break-in. I also use about 4 oz of Schaffer's Moly EP oil treament for hte antimony and a little extra moly (also recommended from thi site when I used to participate in the past)...

Oil Change Interval for Low Mileage Use?

I used to visit this site a lot but haven't in about 2 years. I have an '07 Acura TL-S and changed out the factory fill after 1200 miles to M1 0w-20 (I bought a lot of it up before they went to 5w-20 based on the good results I saw posted here). I don't drive too much. The current M1 0w-20...

    Amsoil ATM 10W-30

This is suprising to me. The ASL 5w-30 and ATM 10w-30 are basically the same oil (except for low temp properties) and both have low NOAK and 11.9 cst at 100 degrees. What would account for the better results? Is the stability of the ATM that much better than the ASL?

    Magnesium- good or bad??????

I've noticed that Amsoil's oils have a lot of Mg in them compared to other synthetics. I would guess this is to aid in extended drain capabilities(?). Is there any downside to an oil having over 500ppm Mg in its formulation?

    GC 0W30 02 Maxima 1707 miles

If we assume this batch did indeed have 9ppm of iron to begin with and extrapolate out the numbers to the recent G35 UOAs with M1 and Amsoil 0w-30 with LC, GC appears to be a very good alternative as is. Interesting as GC has no boron or moly and similar other additives but is A3 rated. It does...

Public apology to GeorgeCLS re Mobil 1 and esters

All very interesting. You do have to give M1 credit for taking the high road. They could have simply gone the i.e., lower cost Grp III route in the blend like many other oil companies. Instead, they pushed the technology to maintain a true and arguably better synthetic while lowering their own...

Public apology to GeorgeCLS re Mobil 1 and esters

Given what we now think comprises M1, is this a 'better' formulation than someting like Amsoil that still uses PAO/POE? I know the M1 is more economical for them but is it a step 'back' from a PAO/POE blend like perhaps their Delvac. It appears to do well enough in the UOAs but then so do a lot...

XOM statement in LnG contradicts BITOG

In the above post, I meant to say Group II+ but in any event, I understand they have to use something like an additive ester or Group I/II dino to carry the additive package in suspension. But how do they accomplish general solvency and/or thermal stability. The paper says ANs have good solvency...

XOM statement in LnG contradicts BITOG

Does this indeed mean that SuperSyn M1 does substitute an advanced AN for POE? If so, how does M1 accomplish any solvency for the additives and thermal stability that Molacule talks about(sure would explain the lowering of flash points and increase in pour points from Tri Syn to SuperSyn in the...

XOM statement in LnG contradicts BITOG

Is it possible that George CLS' statement last year that M1 SuperSyn does not contain esters implies the new formula is a PAO-Advanced AN formulation? Just a thought. Also, give the information provided by Mola, it would seem ARX would like a high milege dino that has some esters in it rather...
