just a quick update, the W20 reprogram was done roughly 10 months ago. Before I would add 1qt for every 2,000 -2,500 miles driven once it reached the "low/add" mark on the dipstick. I'm at 3,800 and just a tad above the "low/add" mark. Decided not to push it because of the crazy hot weather here...
Just a quick update, after my last change at ~ 60k, I eventually settled on Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 with solid/consistent results, roughly 3 seconds of start-up rattle at every crank and all quiet while running, but along the way my curiosity got the best of me ...
Tried Rotella Gas Truck 5w-30...
Oil was changed in Aug. 2019 @ 10,889. When it reached the low mark in Oct. 2020 @ 14,889 I took a sample and then added 1qt. For the next 10 months (or 2,942 miles) I periodically added oil making sure it was near the full mark, which ended up being another quart by the time I did the oil...
the bottle still has the grape smell as does the axle when I pulled the plug to check the level. When I buy a new bottle, the OEM manual from 2004-2012 U.S. Colorado's calls for this (old # 89021677) new #10-4016/88900401, but it does not distinguish for LS or G80's. From all the research here...
haha, yeah, I always thought that was odd gimmick for selling this oil ... all good points on the additives. Not sure if it makes a difference, but the truck is also 8 years old and yes, the bottle was half used, then stored.
Trying to decide if I can use this 8 year old oil to top off in my Limited Slip (non G80) rear axle. It seems to disperse well once I shake it up. Any thoughts if this is Friction Modifier/Additive or maybe the grape scent GM puts in their oil?
a little more info to contribute. Like JohnnyDee mentioned, GM/AcDelco has so many Dexron VI numbers to choose from, its frustrating for sure. I ended up comparing the label on the back of my 4 year old bottle and found the 10-9243 matched word for word. I'm more confident no ill effects on my...
not really, warranty is up in another 3 months. I think adding fresh oil every month would not be detrimental to the engine, especially when I keep it full. By the time I reach 7,000 miles I will have added 3qts, and the fill is 4qts ....
nope, reprograming the PCM ... we got the letter in the mail last week. Quote from MyJeepCompass.com "Apparently certain conditions cause the engine to draw a vacuum that must suck oil into places it shouldn't go. The software is supposed to reprogram the engine to avoid this."
Yep. The wife...
Last oil change was August 2019. It reached just below the low mark by August 2020 with only 2,900 miles on this oil. Yes very low miles in 12 months. Before adding a qt. I took a sample. My plan is to just add oil until I reach 7,000 miles on this filter and then do an oil/filter change.
just checked my Amazon order, thats the one ...
you got me thinking, the last time the silicone was above normal was on my 2005 when the cone filter had partially slipped off the tube, which is enclosed a covered box and never noticed until the next oil change. so i checked the intake system...
never OLM. yep, currently the 2.9L, i've had an 2005 3.5L and 2012 3.7L . Agreed, in 25+ years of using K&N filters not one issue. its my fault for not cleaning it annually. For 15 years i go according to my Blackstone reports, I feel confident to run OCI's up to 6,500 for blends and at a...
Pennzoil Full Synthetic HM. At about 3,800 I had to add 3/4 of a quart and thought for sure no worries until 7k oil change, guess i was wrong. the high silicone was a very dirty K&N filter. my current fill is RGT 5w-30 with 6oz of Lubegard, Fram XG-3506.
all great ideas, insight and suggestions, that's why I love this site my mood has changed from diminished to hopeful, Thanks everyone
i've narrowed it down to …
yearly oil changes regardless of consumption …. UGH, not likely
