valvoline max life 10w30 in jeep 4.0 ?

The Maxlife is a good bet for your application. My uncle runs it in his 1995 Jeep 4.0 and has well over 200K on that motor. Fram Double Guard should be called "Double Crap." It is nothing more than the crappy orange can but with Teflon, which is a very controversial additive. A Supertech filter...

    M1 Extended Performance filters

I'm most surprised that the new filters are not E-Cores and even advertise the fact that they have steel center tubes and steel endcaps. It really puts doubt in Champion's statements when their top-line filter does not feature the eCore design.

    Letter-writing campaign

Everyone of BITOG who is a fan of GC should write a letter asking Castrol to: 1) Admit that the green GC was a unique formulation, as our VOAs have confirmed. 2) Make it readily availble as a premium product above and beyond the Syntec line. For broad market appeal, I'm sure Castrol could...

    M1 Extended Performance filters

The Autozone in Linden, NJ has the new M1 Extended Performance filters on the shelf. To my surprise, THEY ARE NOT E-CORE, but are "old school" Champion design (they look identical to the old filters.) The box even advertises a "steel center tube" as one of the features of the filter. I wish I...

    Self-changable cars

With the advent of the new cartridge oil filters, wouldn't the next logical step be to replace the drainplug with an easy-to-open valve coming out through a trap door (like a gas cap). This way the oil change could be something anyone could do without tools, going the under car, etc.

Motorcraft BACK AT WALMART IN NJ

Rejay1, I don't think you understood me. The MC filter FL-820S only cost $2.93. The $9.30 included the 6 quarts of oil.

Motorcraft BACK AT WALMART IN NJ

The Dollar Tree next door only has TropArtic 10w-30, and no filters. I'm really glad they got MC just in time for me to do a 6-month change on my Mom's Escape (a 2003 with 8,000 miles of stop-and-go driving on the clock). I'm sticking with 5W-20 and MC filters for the warranty period. I...

Motorcraft BACK AT WALMART IN NJ

I was at the Wal-Mart in Piscataway last night and saw several cases of Motorcraft SM 5w20 and 10w30 stacked on the floor. They were not yet put on the shelf, but the clerk said that they would be put up very soon. I asked for a price check on each grade and they rang up for $1.17. I am told...

    Elves' favorite filter

What kind of filter do the elves recommend for use with GC? Should I go with a Fram Double Guard, Pennzoil, or Honda OEM filter on my 2001 Honda Odyessy V6 when running Syntec 0w-30? Also, what do the elves think of additives such as Slick 50 and "synthetically formulated" STP Oil Extender?

    Sludge motors

I have an Intrepid, but not a 2.7. It seems that folks running Mobil 1 are avoiding this problem. So this begs the question, WHY WON'T CHRYSLER SPEC MOBIL 1 FOR THE 2.7L ENGINE. Sure, it costs a bit more, but I'd rather spend an extra $10 per oil change over $5,000 for a new motor.

    Troparctic availibility

I've been using Motorcraft 5W-20 in my mom's 2001 Escape. Now that Walmart does not carry this oil, I am wondering where I can get TropArctic 5W-20 synthetic blend, which I've heard is excellent. Walmarts in North Jersey don't carry any TropArctic, and Dollar Tree only carries 10W-30 and...

    Walmart going all Fram

It appears that my local Walmart is going all Fram. Motorcraft filters were discounted to $1.00, and sold out in one day (a local garage bought them out). Supertech has not been restocked in months. There are a few left, selling at full price, but many sizes are unstocked. The auto dept...

    Ignoramous of the year

Good find Brian. It's amazing that companies can get away with this. By the way, the product was called "Road Tech" not "Road Power" as I initially wrote. I thought that this would be selling for about 59 cents, but I saw it ring up $2.99 each. At least it wasn't non-detergent, as I've seen in...

    Ignoramous of the year

Today I was at the local Quick Chek buying a soda when I see this 60-ish guy buying 5 quarts of "Road Power" 10W-30 oil for $2.99 each. I casually asked him "Is that stuff any good," and he told me it was the best. He puts it in his 2.7L Dodge Intrepid (sludge monster) every 3,000 miles. He has...

    Fram vs. Purolator Air Filters

Despite all the negative things people have said about Fram, the air filter for my application (CA8606--2000 Dodge Intrepid 3.2) looked pretty good, so I decided to give it a try. I went to a store that carries Fram, Purolator, and STP. The STP was out of my size, so I could only compare Fram...
