Older truck with low miles, 2 part Q

That's a good suggestion Ken, But I think I may be past this point(seal conditioning)now. I've noticed in the last couple of months that the puffs of blue are starting to look more like mosquito contol. I have to research the Rotella 5w-40 that Drew and others have mentioned. Sounds like it may...

Older truck with low miles, 2 part Q

You're right, I should take care of this problem the right way and replace the seals. Truck doesn't deserve a band-aid fix. I probably will take the Syn. route. Thanks for the input guys.

Older truck with low miles, 2 part Q

The truck can sit for three weeks at a time, but when it does get used, I do try to run it for at least 20 miles minimum. Not knowing enough about the subject, I've never heard about using diesel engine oil. Here in Maine it gets plenty cold as you know, but if I decide to go for the once a year...

The "special" things that happen at Jiffy Lube

Something I saw at a quickie oil change place once... I was doing some electrical work at a place that had just opened for business, and I spent a good part of the day there. Twice I saw an employee telling the customer that their drain plugs had stripped threads, but we can fix this for $$$...

Older truck with low miles, 2 part Q

Did a search, most deal with high mileage vehicles. I have a 1988 GMC 305cu. that I have owned since new. It only has 31k miles on the clock. It does blow blue upon startup, but other than this, there is no oil consumption. Have done 6 month-dino-10w-30 oil (mobil)changes from the start as it...

    Sometimes I wonder about dealerships.

I've never heard of changing the washer until I had the oil changed in my '05 Nissan yesterday. $1.25 for that baby!! I might add all I've ever owned until now were GM products. They all had a nylon washer that never leaked.

Nissan says no synthetic oil in new Altima's?

Thanks for the fine everyone. I agree with Cyprs and others here that the QR25DE is a fine motor, decent h.p. for the $. I have had to top the oil off several times in 3000 miles, so I am concerned at this point of seating the rings with Nissans plan before I switch to Sythetic. My guess on...

Nissan says no synthetic oil in new Altima's?

Hi Everyone, I'm Colts buddy with the 2.5 Altima...Don't throw the rotten fruit yet!!! Yes, I did say Nissan recommends mineral based oils...and yes I did interpret this as saying no synthetic. I went back and re-read the manual and I was wrong, nowhere does it say explicitly not to use...
