Road trip with 4k miles on oil already

I actually just bought a boroscope to find that out

Road trip with 4k miles on oil already

It's where you pour solvent chemicals in the cylinders through the spark plug hole to dissolve or break up carbon build up on the piston crown and in the rings. By many accounts, it works very well. But results will vary. I'm not expecting much, but if I could cut my consumption in half that...

    Valvoline R&P 5W-30 - 3.8k mi; 2019 Kia Sorento V6 - 88k mi

Funny that following severe service with top notch oils still doesn't seem to halt or slow oil consumption for some people. I can't say for the Sportage we have because it was pre-owned by 2 people for the first 98k miles but my Sonata never saw an OCI over 5k (was doing every 4k with that one)...

How is 5k miles for any engine an "extended" drain interval? Especially with something like HPL. If it weren't for excessive oil consumption in my vehicles, I'd run HPL in them for 10-15k mile with confidence (but I'd sample to ensure it was safe) before concerning my self. That's 50-100% the...

Road trip with 4k miles on oil already

I'm starting my trip to TX. It's 1000 miles to GA (our approximate halfway point) from Upstate NY, and then another 815 miles from there to TX. My 5k OCI change is "due" in 1249 miles so that kind of worked out because I'm doing my oil change after a piston soak while in TX, soon as we get there.

It's true at 10-15k miles annually, that it could take a year for someone to notice the benefits of this product. I'm beginning to think placebo has a lot to do with people alleging results within the first change. I don't doubt it's possible, just extremely unlikely. I've got over 16k miles of...

I disagree. I don't think anyone could draw such a blanket conclusion like that across the automotive industry when there's an enormous growing pool of people who are dealing with oil consumption in their well maintained vehicles. Me included.

You don't have to do that. Follow the instructions on the labeling. It's a great oil and a good price. Is it the best ever? No, and I don't know anyone making a sincere claim that it is. But for $25 after rebate (at my local WMs) it's hard to beat. I'm nearly through my 4th change with it and...

Looking for a Intake Valve and Combustion cleaner like Seafoam

I say, it's your car, do what you can handle. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Berryman's is mostly acetone, certainly smells like it. I'd go for it, unlikely it will cause harm. Possibly won't do any good though either, not without consistent applications over a long period of time...

    Oil guzzler OCI conundrum

I've wondered about this too. My 2019 Kia Sportage consumes the same amount but I stick with 5k OCIs out of habit and because I like doing it.

Good and bad things about the state you live in?

Come up to Upstate NY for 3 years and tell me you wouldnt go back to Illinois in a heart beat. What part of Illinois? I'm from Aurora but it's been a long time since I lived in IL.
