88 octane unleaded without ethanol less expensive than 87 octane with ethanol?

When E10 first came out, I had a car that consistently got 40+ mpg. After E10, my gas mileage dropped exactly by the energy ratios of E10/E0! I never saw 40 mpg again in that car running E10. E10 has less energy per gallon and you see it in the fuel economy! The car was a 2004 Honda Civic HX.

    LPG conversion

Stellite exhaust valves, bronze valve guides, and hardened exhaust valve seats are necessary for running LPG or CNG. What they use for today's unleaded gasoline setups should be fine for these fuels. It's the cars made before the 1980s that are susceptible to exhaust valve seat wear--those...

    Cheap alternative to premium?

^^^^This is the answer!^^^^ If your vehicle has a knock sensor (piezoelectric microphone) and it detects spark knock, the ECU will jerk timing back and then the vehicle will lose power and act sluggish. If you want to do a simple experiment, monitor engine timing at idle and then take a metal...

    1999 Honda Accord 2.3L 4cyl using oil?

Have you changed your PCV valve? This can cause oil consumption if it is plugged. Also, do you see blue smoke? Blue smoke is a sign of the engine actually burning the oil. Do you see any leaks under the car? Hope this helps. Mike

Terminating high mileage Civic 0W-20 test

Quote: It might also mean that he needs a new sender. +1 My wife had a 1997 Chrysler Sebring that started the flickering business at idle on a hot day. We replaced the sender and started the car with the sender out so it could blow any crud out, and that did the trick. Also, don't forget to...

Suck it out or jack it up

My 2006 Mustang GT requires it to be jacked up to get the oil changed. The last time, I just took 6 qts. of Motorcraft 5W-20 and a Motorcraft FL-820S filter to Wally World and let them change it for $12, while I watched them--closely. Hope this helps. Mike

Who Makes Motorcraft? Who are its Siblings?

I did a search and didn't find my answer. I know Honda's oil is basically made by Exxon/Mobil. Who makes Motorcraft and who are the siblings to Motorcraft? Thx, Mike
