    Knife sharpening for a noob

I found the Spyderco Sharpmaker to be a worthwhile investment for sharpening all different kinds of knives. Just takes a few minutes to learn how to use it, well worth the $50-60 I paid for it 5 or 6 years ago.

Bought a Ryobi sawzall, took it back

I wonder if you just got a bad one, or if the design has changed since I bought my Ryobi (corded) sawzall 10-12 years ago. I have both corded and cordless Ryobi sawzalls, have used both quite a bit over the years around our property (love the cordless one for tree-trimming duty) and never had an...

How often do you change your cabin filter?

Didn't realize our Forester had a cabin filter until this year. Replaced it last month after 7 years and 90k miles on the stock one. It was pretty nasty, but I couldn't tell any significant difference in the quality or volume of air the HVAC was passing. Replaced the cabin filter on our Mini...

do all females destroy cell phones?

My wife has never broken a cell phone (and neither have I) in about 18 years of owning them. We still have a bunch of old cell phones that were used for several years and then retired. Most recently I passed onto her my original Motorola Droid after I had used it for 2-3 years before upgrading...

    The Tire Rack

I like to give Tire Rack my business when I can for the motorsports they support, their good customer service, selection, and all the info they provide. I've even driven 4 hours to autocross at their headquarters on their test track. I also give my local Discount Tire store some business...

Richard Hammond of Top Gear is coming to Chicago

Wonder if the Hamster is over here on official business or not. I met James May a few years back when he was down in Florida filming a TG segment on the Fisker Karma. He was very approachable and relatively friendly.

    Captain Phillips

I borrowed the DVD from the library. I can't stand Tom Hanks, but heard he gets beat up by the pirates, so thought it would be worth watching, for me, because of that and the last 1/4 of the movie where the SEALs took charge. Those two things made it worth it for me to watch it.

hand washing car in cold weather-your technique

I use elbow length neoprene gloves and warm water for washing my cars in cold weather. The gloves cost me about $25-30 8 or 10 years ago, and were well worth it. Keep my hands/arms dry and warm through the process.

    Falken's new Ziex ZE-950 UHP all-season

brz/frs any long term results yet

No problems with my BRZ yet, coming up on two years of ownership (June). Hated the stock tires, ordered some sticky rubber (Dunlop Star Specs) 10 days after picking up the car. Only use the stock tires for storing it inside over the winter months. Overall I really like it, but I would love it if...
