    I bought a 2010 GTI 2.0T

^ The manual allows that use of 5w-30 where 5w-40 is not available. But it states pretty explicity that 5w-40 is the preferred viscosity.

    I bought a 2010 GTI 2.0T

I've just bought one of these also ('010 GTI). VW does spec 5w-40 for it (synthetic 502.00 certified). Not wild about the Group III Castrol. Why do people have problems with M1 0w-40? I can see going down to 0w for the cold viscosity. But people seem to be willing to use the GC 0w-30. I would...

Um, in a direct injection engine, how is a fuel treatment going to clean the intake valves?

Is BC truly a Group IV?

A number of sources point at this being a group III oil. I have a '03 GTI VR6. I was planning on using this oil, but I'm now leaning more toward the M1 0w40, which appears to be a true Group IV synthetic, and I can get cheaper to boot.

    5/40 group III questions

I thought the latest thinking was that the BC 5w40 was group III? Based on the above info that any BMW LL01 oil is true synthetic, than the BC 5w40 is group III. That oil only meets LL98. [ June 08, 2004, 04:49 PM: Message edited by: MikeW ]

    Mobil 1 0W-40 or BMW 0W-30

I'd probably use the M1 0w40. Back when the E46 first came out, the manual called for 5w40. Then BMW changed their oil marketing deal from Valvoline to Castrol, and the recommended viscosity suddenly became 5w30. Mind you, the engine did not change. I find it hard to believe that this engine...

    Oil Recommendations for Caddy Northstar

If the car calls for 5w30 why not use 5w30? If it doesn't call for synth, you can certainly use it, and M1 is fine, just use the 5w30. Even the group IIIs would probably be fine, especially if the car doesn't call for synth specfically. As far as the oil consumption, I don't know why everyone...

Could I use Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5W-40 Motor Oil for my VW 1.8T ?

The Castrol 5w40 is probably the best oil for that engine, but cab be hard to find. Next after that would be the M1 0w40. The M1 5w40 truck/suv may or may not be better than the 0w40. However M1 is not positioning it as a 'passenger car' oil and hasn't gotting the Euro car certifications for...

Mobil 1 Bentley GT 198 mph

I'm pretty sure ExMob paid a pretty penny for that endorsement. For everyone involved, the volumns here are miniscule. How many of these cars are they going to build a year, 500? That the daily output of one of Fords medium sized plants (okay, I'm guessing that). Even if every one who ever buys...

More proof that the 3000 mile change is bogus

Another thing: All these people that change their oil at 3K may be better served spending their money on other maintenance items that they never think of. Brake fluid? transmission fluid? fuel filter? air filter? Coolant? How many people know these things even exist, let alone need to be changed...

Rerefined Motor Oils - Why Don't We See More of It?

As some have alluded to previously, I was always under the impression that the collected used oil just gets dumped back into the refining process at some point in the process along with the crude. It's probably in all dino oil (and maybe some Group III 'synth'). The people buying it without even...

The Hemi in the new Chrysler 300C gets 5w20!

I bet we'll hear alot about the longevity of this engine. The 300 with the hemi give Chrysler a good entry back into the fleet car market, if it want to go there. It would make an interesting cop car, and I bet I'll be approved as an NYC taxi pretty soon. Those applications will be the acid test.
