I have seen the valve guides get a little rusty especially the exhaust side. The first start something has to give then it breaks loose. After replacing the push rod it never fails again, and could find no other failed parts. I saw this in motorhomes that do more sitting then driving

It will throw a code for cam and crank out of sync, or unable to control cam operation. Why do you think is acting up ?

They had issues with the one band (2nd and 4 gear ) failing from a hardened seals on the piston that applies it . flairs were the most common issue. If the fliud swells seals a little it would help.

I have 15 explorer and plan on a drain and fill every other oil change around 20k. Since the filter is internal and can't be changed with out splitting the case this is really the only thing you can do.

I was told by an engineer at ford, that the dried blue or other color "loctite" is really a 2 part epoxy biased " loctite". Long self life and does not go bad. The base and the activator are in the paste but not mixed, when installing you smash the two parts together and that's it.

Sounds like the check valve in the fuel pump. My truck does the same thing but the fuel tank looks like the deck of the Titanic ...rust city. I live with it
