    Ferrari F430 and 997 GT3 Motor Oil

Holy ****! PM me your info, we have to chat! The Torco is great cold and hot. The 997 is not my favorite shifter, but the Torco definitely improved cold shifting. Warm is pretty similar to whatever the factory fill was.

Thank you very much for the info. I wound up going with Amsoil Euro FS 5w40. It seemed to be a solid choice, especially for the preferred pricing. I run Torco SGO for gear oil.

Thanks for the recommendation. FYI, There is no engine out maintenance on either of these, and if there was, I would be performing it at my shop. I daily Toyotas, and it doesn’t matter which car it is, I want to minimize engine wear and maximize longevity. Corolla, Ferrari, I just want to...

Thank you for the informative post! Yup, I have looked at Pennzoil Platinum Euro, it also seems to be on the light side of a 40 weight similar to M1.

I agree. But same “issue” manifested on two separate reports 6k miles and 3 years apart. So I am just doing some due diligence to see if there is something to it, or if there’s something better out there. Weird though that a guy who does independent testing ran into the same “issue” I have...

Sure do. So you can mention that to the dealer when you’re transmission is slipping in your Cayenne or the motor is sludged in your Macan because you followed Porsche’s recommended maintenance. Guys, let’s please stay on track and just stick to experience and factual/chemistry based...

    Ferrari F430 and 997 GT3 Motor Oil

Here come the comments we all know and love. Let’s see here…all the oils mentioned have the Porsche A40 spec, and oh btw so does the Mobil 1 that I have been using that has been shearing out of grade. The spec is a MINIMUM standard, and perhaps my usage is a bit more aggressive than the spec...

That’s very possible that there’s a newer Mobil 1 formulation that stays within grade better, but according to the data sheets, Mobil 1 seems to always be on the lighter side to begin with VOA. I’m not ruling out fuel dilution, but I do not idle any of my cars up to temp. Also, these are port...

Wow thanks folks for the informed responses. Understood all of your points…however, when I have the same engine and same oil change interval and run a few fills of different oils, I think that is a fair test to compare the performance of different oils while keeping most other variables equal...

That’s exactly what I am thinking. So I guess it comes down to price and availability. Amsoil is like $11.xx/q and Redline is $17/q. I think I can get the Redline from FCP Euro.

Yes! Thank you for validating my thought process. For my application, I have been prioritizing HTHS, cold flow, and warm viscosity of the oils I am cross shopping. With that said, it seems that Amsoil Euro FS or Redline 5w40 may be the way to go. (cold viscosity, warm viscosity, HTHS) Amsoil...

Thanks for the suggestion, and I will definitely look into it. Again, if it’s available at Walmart, that would be a huge plus but I’m not sure they carry that viscosity on the shelf. Totally agree with your point on used oil analysis, but unfortunately it would take me a decade to experiment...

Honestly, I’m not certain. The gauges are kinda worthless on both cars. The oil change capacity is 9L for the GT3 and 10L for the F430. Right, but they seem similar nonetheless, so you would think they would perform similarly in that application. Also, my GT3 is a 2010…so very different...

Thanks for the info I will dig through that. I just watched the short video on the Porsche GT cars, and that’s shocking considering how close ESP and C40 GT are on paper. 5w40. Shell Helix or something…basically whatever brand was paying Ferrari at the time. In fact all the recommended fluids...

    Ferrari F430 and 997 GT3 Motor Oil

Thank you! It’s pretty simple. In general, heavier weight oils withstand temperature, sheer, and loads better than lighter oils. There is a range of kinematic velocity for each grade of oil…not one specific number. So some oils can be on the heavier side of a grade and some on the lighter...
