    Rant, eating out

What’s a “credit card convenience fee”? Are you paying extra to have the convenience of an employee walking to and from the cash register with your card, versus walking over there oneself?

Better band: Deftones or System of a Down

I was never into either, but Deftones are much more my style. There was an obscure band called Factory 81 that sounded a lot like Deftones back in the day.

    Telephone Landlines

I was thinking about this just the other day…here in rural Vermont, every residence and business still have a landline. My mechanic isn’t too old, he’s in his 60s, and has never had a cell phone. No service anywhere near his home or his shop. Cell phone service is nonexistent in most of the...

    AGM battery maintainer.

I don’t know the science behind it, but I’ve been using the Genius 1 and 5 AGM modes on Die Hard AGMs for years and have had no issues. Then again the oldest of the two batteries is perhaps five years old, and they can last quite a while here in northern Vermont.

Sometimes having the rare version of a vehicle isn't a good thing.

Do it, you won’t regret it, their value has been skyrocketing. Parts are still easy to get anywhere or eBay. I paid $2500 for my 1985 M1009 with a commercial-grade Fisher plow in 2016. Granted, it has a 12V conversion and gas 350. It’s been one of the most reliable vehicles I’ve ever owned...

    Valvoline Restore and Protect

I never did update this thread; I received an alert about a reaction to this message. About two weeks after those photos were taken, that car was totaled when my wife was T-boned by someone running a stop sign. She hobbled away with a sprained ankle and bruised shoulder.

Acura MDX Oil Consumption and Related Questions

A long-overdue update… I think my in-laws put too much faith into whomever it was that was working on this car. My trusted local mechanic couldn’t get the dipstick out. The dealership then couldn’t either. It goes right into the block; there is no tube. The car still has no working dipstick...

That’s what I was going to say. Proper stretching and exercise.

If a boomer wears these items they are outdated

There’s a subculture in the US that considers that normal dress.

    Lets talk about new vehicles

True. I’ve never met a salesperson who knew more about the product than I did. It’s led to some awkward arguments for sure.

Weird movement triggering outdoor wireless camera.. what's going on??

Changes in humidity that the IR is reflecting off of. Like visible light, IR reflects off any light-colored surface.

    Societal addiction to phones

Nor here in rural Vermont. My town and most surrounding towns have no cell phone service of any kind and we prefer it to remain that way. There are major roads you can drive for quite a long time without service. Ten years or so ago you could drive for several hours in many places and not find...

    Whats in it for scrappers?

I inherited a garage with inoperable clothes dryer, fridge, and dishwasher inside. I made $18 scrapping them and it took less than an hour of my time, versus the lowest quote I could get ($220) from a local company to haul them away. Got Junk wanted at least $400.

How to freshen up a battery?

My 5th Gen 4Runner’s OEM was a Panasonic. It lasted eight years without trickle charging or conditioning. That’s a record for me.

Over 60? This video might be worth a look.

I’m not seeing anything but an error message…
