Why is warming up your car bad?

"My point was the exhaust goes someplace, in that the air around the car will be concentrated with fumes " I'm surprised we don't have fatalities every day from the 80 million Americans sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic. " We do. UCLA attributes hundreds of deaths a year in the LA basin...

Why is warming up your car bad?

Hey Zaedock, please point to the text where I said the kid was in the car while it was warming up. I never claimed that. My point was the exhaust goes someplace, in that the air around the car will be concentrated with fumes (if there is no wind) and some exhaust invariably finds its way inside...

Why do people treat SAE 30 as an Anti--******?

Well, for one thing 95% of the country will experience temps of 40 or less at least once per year, and probably 85% will see 30 or less. I don't think there is anything inherantly wrong with straight 30 but it won't work for most people due to warranty concerns, weather concerns, or a combo of...

Suggestions on a 94 Acura Legend

I think your oil choice is fine, although many will argue hard to really fault M1 5w30 in your engine. On the trans, check with Honda, but I believe the '94s well pre-date Honda's special ATF. Factory specs for your vintage is probably Dexron II. Regular Dexron III should be fine but double...

Why is warming up your car bad?

"If I want to fill it up with gas and idle it all day I will do so It's my dollar." That's fine. Just understand you are wasting that dollar and not doing your car, environment or child any favors. People are free to smoke too doesn't mean it is a good idea.

    Legal violation by honda dealership?

Sigh. This is why I have changed my own oil for 20 years now and will continue to do so until I can't turn the socket anymore.

Why is warming up your car bad?

I would be more concerned with your 2 year old inhaling CO and other noxious fumes from an open-loop engine than putting them in a cold car. Bundle the kid up and don't excessively run the engine... Sigh. Grandma always said kids were spoiled. Heck we didn't even have AC in the car growing up...

Is there a Motorcraft filter for Honda???

Another option than the Honda-Fram filter is the Honda-Filtech one. It's a good filter, and you can get 'em cheap if you check around. A dealer by me sells them for 3.99 each if you buy 4 and they include the Honda crush washer which tecnically should be replaced each oil change. If you have a...

Why does Infiniti recommend dino over syn?

Rotaries are a lot different, they actually inject oil to lube the apex seals. There is no conventional crankshaft, and no connecting rods or valvetrain of any sort. Mazda has always said no to syn, all the way back to the old Rx-7 and earlier Cosmo's in the mid-1970's. The fear was syn would...

    Jiffy Lube mistake?

The Legend is a old model, before 1995 I beleive? This might have been well before the special Honda ATF days. The legend originally spec'd Dextron II. Dex III should be fine in this car. Check the manual, I think you will find the Legend more forgiving in the ATF department.

Tired of hearing of how the U.S. makes only garbage cars!

First, what makes a car "worst"? Is it body assembly tolerances, mechanical reliability, electrial system materials and design, fuel milage as compared to other in the vehicle's class, etc. I don't find American cars inferior, I find them boring, as in undesireable in the sense of style...

    I am amazed: 5w20

I would advise a 5W for those Detroit winters. If you don't like 5W-20 go with a 5W-30. 10W while technically OK for your winter is a little too thick for optimum protection on cold start.

Cleaner for Throttle Body and Intake Manifold ?

"Nah, it's not really considered a serious carcinogen. Not even considered so by the state of California." Um, not to be too picky, but yes it is. Perhaps you missed the statement as follows on the MSDS you quoted: "WARNING: THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS A CHEMICAL(S) KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA...
