What are you working on today?

2001 Lexus LS 430 Friend’s son came over for an oil change and front brake pads and rotors. What a delightful vehicle. Good googly moogly. V8 is just heavy and purrs. Vehicle is tight as a bank vault. Interior and dash is a class act. The 4-piston front calipers might weigh a pound. They...

    Lexus GS350 (2GR-FSE) Oil Consumption

No. That was a concern born from earlier synthetics, but has been largely a non-issue now. I have had changes in oil consumption when switching brands of synthetics, so I think there might be a tiny area for exceptions, but most of my vehicles I’ve bought have been 100k mile cars and moving to...

Tire techs: What’s the best balancing AT tire?

Looks a lot like a Method 318 too

    Lexus GS350 (2GR-FSE) Oil Consumption

I have had a few old vehicles which consumed oil. I ran early oil changes with synthetic oil and always a half can of seafoam in the sump. A couple of them improved greatly over time that way, one going from a quart every 1500 miles to half a quart every 7500. I probably used Penzoil platinum...

    The Air Tool Argument

I enjoy having both. The air is incredibly helpful for blowing out the shop, air filters, fans, hair driers, carpets, shoes, sawdust-caked tools. I probably use it more for cleaning than I do running an impact. My goto drill is this small 12V rigid - mostly as a nut-driver. It’s probably 13...

    2015 Toyota Tundra- repo bid

The idle-down on cruise after bump - I would set the scan tool to watch the throttle plate position. I’ll bet you see it close, not open to maintain speed. Bump tells me that maybe wheel speed sensor is probably flaking out, or a wire to it. ??

What is your best MPG ever on a road trip?

Mid 80’s fluke conditions in a 5MT ‘86 ford escort - skinny tires, 5th gear, engine off at every coasting event in the mountains. Over 45 mpg via 3 hour road trip. Carbuerated engine. It generally was a 23-30 mpg car 2018 civic 6MT. Always 35 ish 24 Rav4H. always 39.5 mpg

2006 bmw 325i buy or no buy?

Inline 6 with a manual transmission? The pleasure of driving it could be worth the learning curve. I suspect these are similar to Volvo ownership. There is a learning curve to getting around the hood, different than a Japanese car. But then once you figure it out, you might not want to work on...

F150 Rear Sway Bar for head bobble?

Head bobble seemed a trade off. Before the bar, the truck leaned more and you were tossed farther. After bar, it leaned less but the corrective lean was quicker to come. Frankly, between the two, because the amount of rocking was less, I guess my perception is that the event didnt last as long...

F150 Rear Sway Bar for head bobble?

I ran hellwig rear sway bar on my f150 and it was fantastic. It may be a little stronger than it needs to be, but the hellwig has 3 settings, and on the lowest it was quite nice. It also radically transformed on-center steering feel. With that, normal 18” oem wheels, and eventually a reasonable...

My new 2026 Toyota Tacoma SR5

    @Delta, what tire size are you running? Is that a 265/70 r17, or a 265/65 r18?

Buy or Rent Trash Pump for Emptying Swimming Pool

I have always wanted a gas powered trash pump but have never had a need for it. A couple of years ago I bought a small sump pump with 1” outlet for flushing the water heater. It’s been used for that a few times but more recently has been used in 2 emergencies to take the top 12” off our septic...

Air compressor explosion / Portable Air Tank Explosion

I made sure I bought a unit with the ASME placard, and mine came from tractor supply, a belt drive 120V unit. I’d previously bought a harbor freight unit, found no ASME placard on it, and fought with them to accept the return. They didn’t want to take it back because I had put the oil into the...
