1 Week Review - 2025 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid Limited

Tacoma got a beard trim. The plastic is pretty easy to work with. I removed a 1/2” strip pretty much in a middle stripe across the whole thing, and then placed the lower half in front of the upper. It took a little trimming to get it to set in front/back. Tacked it up in place to get the...

Cheap aftermarket radiator better than original?

I agree. Aftermarket quality can be dubious unless you’re specifically installing a reputable high performance part. Coil and fin cleaner for HVAC is now sold even at places like Home Depot. Spray it in the radiator getting it as deep as you can, let it foam up and run out, the. Patiently wash...

    Cooper AT3 vs ATP2

The AT3 was top of its class when it came out and was still a leading contender years later, and was affordable for everything it brought. I thought it also kinda name-changed to Road+Trail, but could be wrong.

Firestone Destination LE - anyone have these?

Let us know how these do. If the LE3 fixed mid-life rain traction, it could be the next BITOG sleeper favorite!

    Michelin CrossClimate2 wear concerns

Corner hard? You might have them unmount them and swap sides, basically to rotate them to the other side of the vehicle. We’ve had two sets and they wore very well - evenly and slowly. A friend just got a set and I thought they were a little noisier than expected. Not bad, just not as...

    Which truck would you buy

The Chevy might be the most solid of the bunch, those were incredibly good years. Iirc also has more usable torque while the ford needs to spin. Not that the 5.3 will win any tractor pulls but it is a solid motor. Of course the one I’d want is that 96 if I could swallow the price. However...

    Short Shifter Install

It was pretty pronounced on the 18 sport 1.5t 6MT. But the 1.5t also had very usable torque. For normal driving, shifting early did great. For sport shifting, just shift and drop the clutch - the engine doesn’t have much inertia and it was fine.

    Largest displacement now / ever

Land. 4.7L tundra, thought the 2.7L ecoboost at full boost swallows more air… 5.4L rough equivalent. Water. Merc 350, mmm I just loved hearing it idle in gear to trawl around at a crawl at sunset. Burrbrbrbrllebebbel.

YOKOHAMA Avid Ascend GT rises again ...

Mmm you’re making me think…. 2021 I think is the year I bought? That might be the previous generation? They /really/ complimented the wheel/tire combo I had, it was incredible, far better dynamics and stability than the stock arrangement while being far more comfortable with the smaller-than oem...

    2026 Subaru Uncharted

Fabulous city car. Stellar. It has cute factor and utilitarian interior. A C-HR chassis isnt a bad place to start. For someone who wants a usable EV and doesn’t live somewhere where “big” works, this has a lot to offer. Hopefully it’s affordable.

YOKOHAMA Avid Ascend GT rises again ...

I had potenza all-season on my Lexus Gs with smaller 17” wheels and they were fabulous. I tried DWS06 which I reallyyyy liked but they were indeed a little squishy in that configuration, enough that it had no on-center feel. The softer-tread potenza is a great UHP, IMO.

Inherited a new gas can! Surecan 5 gallon, with spout at the base

All of my plastic cans look like balloons in the summer and then crinkle in the winter and CRACK. I’ve been putting off buying metal. I’m either going to convert to metal cans, or mount a 15 gallon fuel cel in a shelf with some kind of failsafe valve, gravity feed lockout and use that for...

What are you working on today?

Worked on finishing the lamp for my mom. I’ll post a pic of it soon. Finally did the math on my yard size, and I’ve not been using nearly enough fertilizer or weed stuff. Also the pH is off, favoring more weeds and less grass. So I put down lime treatment and then nitrogen with the rest of my...
