    GC gold vs Mobil 1 0W40 vs M1 5W40

It's been awhile since I last posted here, and man things have changed. It appears this site is alive and well. Anyway I wanted to get your take on these 3 oils for a near 100k mile LS1 Camaro. I've been using the GC the last 3 oil changes, but now that the mileage is getting up there and I'm...

    Elves' favorite filter

The elves don't like cheap filters, especially those that don't flow well like the PureOne. Their favorite is the K@N. Jason

    saying goodbye to the elves...

I found some 05 GC, but it was green, probably the last batch before switching over the gold stuff. I'd be interested to see what kind of UOA the gold stuff will generate in an LS1. I still think the gold will generate nearly the same results as the green, but that's just me talking. Jason

finally found GC in my area

It's been awhile since I've been here, but I finally found some GC in my area. Wal-Mart doesn't carry the 0w30 in Syntec and neither does Advance. Only 1 of the Autozones had this stuff in and it's the M05 kind. Has anyone else had trouble finding GC? I'm in souther Indiana. I've been running...

    GC 0W30 vs M1 0W40 for LS1

It's been awhile since I've been here, but it's good to be back. I've searched this site for oil analyses of these 2 oils for LS1's, but can't seem to find an analysis for the 0W40. I have a 99 Camaro SS with 77k on it, and am using 0W40 with K@N filters, but the Autozones here do carry the GC...

    BOBISTHEOILGUY FILTER TESTS

Any ideas as to how much longer till the experiment starts? BTW, if there is a need for all of us to chip in a few bucks on cost of the experiment, someone can put me down as one of the contributions. I don't get a chance to come here as often. It's great to see this site getting bigger and...

    First impressions after adding Auto-RX

The 2.8 wasn't real durable until 87 when GM redesigned the bearings in the bottom end and some other improvements. By the time the 3.1 came out, these engines were actually very durable and had impressive power. I doubt they're as durable as the 3.8 which is basically bulletproof like the Chevy...

    Recommendation for '97 Explorer 5.0L

For the oil, drive it home, do an auto-rx treatment, then switch to M1 0w40. This is not a modular motor, so it's gonna like a thicker oil especially since it has close to 100k on it. Plus you can run this oil year round with great start up circulation. As for the transmission, the idea of a...

Mobil 1= more engine noise in my wife's GTP

Wow, Patman that's a pretty good time with only the 20TL catbak. It also traps pretty high for an auto too which most likely means your LT1 should be running better than it ever has. Now you need to put some Hooker LT's, CAI, maybe have someone bore the TB to 52mm and port the MAF housing and...

Synthetic on a higher milage car...

If he's gonna shell out the money for a supercharger, why not shell out maybe a little bit more on a rebuild? He could rebuild the motor to stock specs and get the hot cam kit and put down right about where a stock C5 vette is assuming he has headers, cold air, and pcm tuning. Or he could...

Mobil 1= more engine noise in my wife's GTP

Try M1 0w40 instead of 10w30. M1 generally has oils at the thin side of the viscosity spectrum. Plus since yours is supercharged, it would definitely like the 40 weight better no matter what. Do that before switching back to another dino oil or fake synthetic. Jason

K&N oil filters on sale at Canadian Tire

I'm assuming the spike in pressure would indicate the jump to bypass mode. I've used K@N filters before, and I always got slightly lower across the board pressure than basically every other filter. Jason

    PATMAN Question

Yeah same here. Thus far I don't recall seeing any of the German Syntec stuff in any store. It might just take more time for it to get here since we're in the Midwest. Jason

    Toyota Sludge Engines

I know alot of people who had GM vehicles with the 3.1, 3.4, and even the 2.8 V6 in their cars, and have never heard of the intake seal problem. These little pushrod engines (aside from the early 2.8's)have earned a solid reputation for durability under some very demanding conditions. As far as...

what oil to use on a high mileage t-bird?

Get the 2nd rx treatment done, then either switch to GTX HM or Penzoil HM but in 10w40 viscosity since you have alot of miles. If you're worried about cold cranking, the Penzoil pumps better than the Castrol on those cold mornings. The other alternative is switch back to M1, in the 0w40 at least...
