    2017 Audi A4: VW 502 vs. 504 oil

Nice! Your experience is consistent with my own and everything else I’ve read about the B9 generation cars. They seem to be overall pretty reliable apart from the leaky thermostat housing, which continues to be the Achilles heel of this car. I also had my thermostat housing replaced - luckily I...

    2017 Audi A4: VW 502 vs. 504 oil

That is great to hear. Slightly off-topic but may I ask why you sold the A4?

    2017 Audi A4: VW 502 vs. 504 oil

50,000 miles, never burned a drop. That said I've never pushed it past 5k OCIs. I should clarify that Castrol 0w-40 is still available on Amazon for $28 shipped. I will either go that route, or switch to a 504 spec oil if there are benefits in doing so, such as equating to less CBU.

    2017 Audi A4: VW 502 vs. 504 oil

So it sounds like both 502 and 504 are perfectly suitable at this time due to lower sulfur fuel that's now available, and additionally 504 may offer benefits over 502. Is there a particular brand of 504 spec oil that people prefer? Was looking at Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 which carries the VW 504...

    2017 Audi A4: VW 502 vs. 504 oil

I own a 2017 Audi A4 Quattro 2.0T CYMC. The placard under the hood says to use 502 or 504 oil. I believe my car was released during VW/Audi's transition to 504 oil. Audi has since switched from recommending 502/504 oil in 17-18 models to 504 only in 2019+ models, with no engine differences. The...

Should I grease caliper guide pins on an Audi?

This is my front caliper. 4 piston fixed, Continental Teves. Not sure what the carrier looks like itself, guess I'll find out when I do the job this weekend. Let me know if you have experience with this caliper design. So far from what people have said, the pins are meant to be dry.

Should I grease caliper guide pins on an Audi?

I'm aware of the clips, was unsure though if I should apply silicone grease on the rest of the back plate, around the clips. Probably overthinking this. Unless anyone says otherwise I will plan on lubricating the rear guide pins, but not the front guide pins, as well as the front/rear pad...

Should I grease caliper guide pins on an Audi?

Interesting, not the same on these pads. The backing plates on the front and rear pads are rubberized but no adhesive.

Should I grease caliper guide pins on an Audi?

So just to confirm, I have floating in the rear and fixed in the front, and you recommend lubricating the guide pins on floating (rear) but not on fixed (front)?

Should I grease caliper guide pins on an Audi?

Hmm, my pads are OEM from an Audi dealer. They look exactly like the photo with a rubber shim. Doesn't seem to be adhesive, unless something peels off (don't think so). Still not sure if I lubricate the front pad backplates... appreciate any insight!

Should I grease caliper guide pins on an Audi?

My fronts (1LF): __________________________________ My rears (1KJ): I will plan on inspecting the front guide pins and cleaning (dry). I will inspect, clean, and lubricate the rear pins. Thanks!

Should I grease caliper guide pins on an Audi?

Back to Audi/VW, why do the fronts pins not require lubrication? Are they not lubricated from the factory? I looked in the factory service manual and it lines up with what you said - there's no mention of lubricating the guide pins in the front brake section, but it does say to lubricate them in...

Should I grease caliper guide pins on an Audi?

Not completely sure, never owned one. I think their logic is that the grease may attract dust, dirt, and other abrasives on the surface of the pin, causing wear and possible binding. But, I feel that could be said about any car.

Should I grease caliper guide pins on an Audi?

Going to do a brake job this weekend (pads and rotors) on my 2017 Audi A4. Just wondering if I should grease the caliper guide pins or not. Don't think Audi makes mention of it, and I know BMW specifically says not to. Was wondering if anyone has experience with Audi/VW and whether or not they...
