    Very basic plumbing DIY question

One other thing to consider is that if you're going to keep the house for any substantial period of time you'll be replacing the disposer again. I'd look at replacing the hard wired electrical connection with a switched outlet under the sink (from the same feed/switch you are using now) and a...

    A little ramp mishap..

I had that happen a few weeks ago when my daughter was driving her Odyssey onto a set of plastic ramps. She started to drift back and goosed the throttle. It spun the ramp under the right front tire back under the car. No damage, easy recovery. Next try I drove it up and hit the throttle...

Will You Jump Someone Else's Car?

I've received many jump starts over the years and I remain willing to pay it forward as needed. I carry 20 foot long 4 gauge cables in all my vehicles. They may go years between uses but they are always there and ready.

What is the reasoning for 2-fuel tanks on a rv?

My RV only has a single tank that feeds the engine, the generator, and the primary heating system (Aqua-Hot). Feeds for the genset and heat will not pull the tank below 1/4 full. Of course, that tank holds 260 gallons of Diesel fuel. ( I get about 6.5 mpg).

    diesel sources

    1. Home heating oil and/or farm Diesel fuel does not have road tax added to the sale price and is generally dyed red. Getting caught with red fuel in the tank of your vehicle on the public highways is not good. Governments really don't like people trying to get out of paying taxes and can be...

Question for Electricians: 3 Way Light Switches and Dimmers

If the light is controlled by more than two switches then the ones in the middle will be 4-ways. You will need to get a 3-way dimmer and use it to replace one of the 3-way switches.

    FL homeowners insurance jumped up

My rate went down substantially and I'm still not moved back into my house after Michael. Of course, various upgrades (roof, windows) during the reconstruction made the difference.

trailer brakes required over 4400 lbs gvwr?

It's determined by the rated gross weight of the trailer and varies by state. You'll have to look up the limit for your state. I've seen as low as 1000 lbs; typical is around 3500 and I think some are higher. Please note that you must meet the requirements for the state you are in. Driver's...

Current when jump starting a car

I carry 20 ft 4 gauge cables with heavy clamps. Just my experience, but I've had 2 or 3 occasions when someone was trying to jumpstart a car with light gauge cables and couldn't get it running. My heavy cables using the same donor battery got it running. My biggest engine* uses 3 size 31...

    Redneck Battery Recovery

Instead of beating on the CR-V battery tray buy one for an Odyssey. About $25, fits the same space, and holds a 24F perfectly. The cables even reach. I swapped out the 51 in our '14 CR-V when we towed it behind our motorhome for about 5 hours and it went flat. It died shortly thereafter.

    tightening torque for wheel lugs

I have to torque the lug nuts on my RV to 450-500 lb-ft. Takes a BIG torque wrench. Drive axle means loosening the outer nuts, torquing the inners, and then retorquing the outers. That makes a total of 80 lugs; MFR recommends redoing it every 2000 miles. Yes, I use a torque wrench on my cars as...

Power requirement of Turbocharger vs Supercharger

As stated above, the energy to drive a supercharger (typically a Roots-type blower) comes directly from the crankshaft. The energy to drive the turbocharger comes from the exhaust. Some of this is basically "free" because when the exhaust valve opens the cylinder pressure is typically much...

    Dog vs Skunk

Years ago we had an English Setter. One day out pheasant hunting she got into a nest of baby skunks. She was tracking birds 30 minutes later. The ride home was memorable... For the rest of her life when she got wet you could still smell the remnants of the skunk odor on her fur.

Awful dealer add on stickers on new cars

The one I hate, and that the local dealers have taken to with a vengeance, is the document preparation fee. 15 years or so ago it was $50, now its more like $500 to $600. They have it pre-printed on the sales ticket so that it's automatically added to the bottom line after the negotiations on...
