    Extreme Sludge, 305 SBC Engine

Quote: DIRECTIONS FOR USE: ...run engine for 10 minutes at 1200 rpm. Shut off engine, drain oil and remove old oil filter. With those directions, I figured if I left it in for any longer, all of the sludge would have been loosened and clogged the oil pump. For now the oil is only slightly...

Quote: 2003GPW I can't believe nobody has said this yet.........BG109 isn't a quick flush product. It's meant to be in the sump for an entire OCI. Um, Correct me if I'm wrong, but I followed the directions on the can...

I had the valve cover off again today in an effort to change the seals. The piece of junk valve compressor I bought did not work well for my application and I was unable to pull the springs & change the seals. I did take off the #2 rockers/pushrods in trying to get at the seals, and cleaned them...

Advice taken! Installed the 195* thermostat today. I'll put on the longer filter when I see the oil darken a little.

I'm sure you guys know this already, but I realized the NAPA ProSelect 21060 is the same exact filter internally as the Walmart SuperTech ST5.

The last filter is from the second treatment of BG109. This time though, I let it "clean" or run for 15 minutes. More granules, but the oil itself was pretty clear. I get the feeling I should have let the BG work longer, as in for a couple of hours/days/miles. The instructions were clear...

Next filter was the one after the first BG109 treatment and drain after 10 minutes. There is clearly sludge granules being filtered out compared to the first filter, but it was in no way packed with sludge after 10 minutes of running (cleaning?).

Ok, went to the store and bought a 195* thermostat (thanks Trackrat) and a larger filter (thanks BrocLuno). The guy behind the counter "cant be held responsible" for the larger filter (PF932) because it doesnt fit on my truck in the computer. Anyway I cut apart the filters to see what I'd...

To show the direction I will take with the truck, I have to tell you what it will be used for. My last truck was a 2500 series Ram. It was great until the wife wanted to put 7 or 8 people in it. In the spirit of marital harmony, I traded it in on the Expedition. I could fit most of my HDepot...

Thanks for the welcome. Quote: i thought lots of sludge could be a coolant leak When I investigated the lack of heat, I did notice that the coolant was low by about a half a gallon. I refilled it when I changed the thermostat. After draining the 2nd dose of BG, I refilled with Rotella 10w30...

    Extreme Sludge, 305 SBC Engine

On to my 2nd treatment of BG109. I filled the truck with WallyWorld SuperTech 10w30 dino, warmed it up, and added the BG. I was feeling a little bit more daring, so I let it idle for 15 minutes before draining. Again the oil was still a cloudy amber, and not the black color that would show me...

    Extreme Sludge, 305 SBC Engine

My plan was to remove the rockers one cylinder at a time, clean what I could by scraping and vaccuuming, and re-assemble with new oil seals. I also planned on flushing the engine with Seafoam. That was until I read of more on it on BITOG. It mad sense to slowly clean the engine rather than all...
