Charged to Take Used Oil Filter?

Seems like it depends on state and local city / county laws as to where you need to take them. Around Northern CA I end up taking them to the hazardous waste spot with my oil after about 4-5 changes. It's a little further than Kragen and others but I never have to hear - we're full and get...

    Drain Plug Gaskets

Because I had a polymer one melt - I avoid those as those and use the gm originial on GM and alu or copper on Mazda and Toyota.

Hard shifting into reverse on MT with 190K?

I have a B2200 that is shifting much harder into reverse than 10k ago. Fluid is Redline MT90 with 20k on it. Should I be redoing the fluid or considering tranmission age and mileage as mechancial problem?

    oil filter for civic

I assume that 2k OCI is the winter storage. I'd go pure one if next mileage after storage is 5k but any filter at lowest price if 2k is your usual OCI. 2k otherwise is money down the drain as would $7 filters unless you leave them on 2 or 3 OCI.

    Undersized filters

I did buy undersized pure one pl14612 for my mazda B2200.(uses pl14610). Looked and saw them used cars bigger than mine (on subaru 2500 and nissan from 2500 to 3500) and couldn't pass up getting 4 of them for $1 each including shipping on ebay.

How long the corolla 4AFE will last?

Cars like wifes - probably better to stay with the one you know than roll the dice on another.

    Undersized filters

Any harm in using them? I can get good prices on oil filters on ebay if I am willing to use a slightly smaller oil filter than that spec-ed for my Mazda B2200. Its spec-ed for the L14610 eg a long thimble size and I use wider old Honda types L14458 and fat and long L24458 but I got 2 shorter...

    1999 Ford Contour Clicking Noise

Mechanics adjust valve clearance to spec for a living. Hondas and Toyotas have the same setup- we're not talking rocket science here.

'05 Malibu Classic - Drain and fill Radiator - How

Way too little - I'd do a full drain if you are over 24-30k. I though GM drain plugs need to be pushed in to allow them to turn left. Jiggling might have done the trick but the plug is not designed to just turn without pushing it in at the same time. The plastic fins just break off its a bit...

'05 Malibu Classic - Drain and fill Radiator - How

I thought the GM drain plug would turn only if you pushed it in at the same time your turned it left. If you turn the plastic fins w/o pushing in they just snap off. I do agree its a garbage design.

    Curius about wix filters.

Seth - your heavy filter after 4K means Wix anti drain valve is still working. That's oil in old filter and it will weigh more than your dry filter. If you want to compare them fill the new one with oil before you install it and then compare its weight to the old one.

NEW CAR most reliable et al

I'd fix up the Toyota and try it in highway mile situation. I'd be certain you are changing permanently from stop and go miles to hairy long miles for a few years before I bought a car solely for that purpose. Sounds to me more like a new job and I'd use the old car in the new job for that first...

    99 civic 2qts low!

I've got a daughter that brings me a tercel that 2 qt low and only take 3.5. Sounds like lots of miles with 2 qt low to me if she wa the owner for most of the miles. If you run 2 qts low- what left turns into tar, gets the rings stuck and increases oil consumption past those stuck rings which...
