    Chevy 5.7 and cleaning

Hi This one looked somewhat worse than what I saw on y-tube. Perhaps I will just keep going with the Penz Plat and change at 5000k.

    Chevy 5.7 and cleaning

Quote: "Does it leak oil? That would be the first thing I would check as opposed to assuming the missing oil is due to consumption. All that takes is a gasket replacement to fix." No leaks. 3000 miles to a qt is very acceptable. :-) It appears this engine doesn't have a consumption problem. I...

    Chevy 5.7 and cleaning

Hi Not sure why I would want to go to a blend for cleaning if I am already using Penz Plat 5w-30. The Rotella is only for cleaning up the mess a sticky pcv may have left. Btw, this engine has metal backed lower intakes which the '97 orig engine were not built with. With the cleanliness of the...

    Chevy 5.7 and cleaning

Hi The truck, if not the engine, has 200,000 miles. I have polled others with this engine /mileage combo and 3000 miles to a quart of synthetic is not typical, hence the replacement engine theory. I am inclined to use HDEO, Rotella, for the cleaning on the lower intake. Possible a bad pcv was...

    Chevy 5.7 and cleaning

Hi I havent posted here in ages but thought I'd post a cleaning question for my old school Chevy Vortec 5.7. Last fall I finally found a nice old body style Chevy Tahoe 2dr that was a southern rust free truck. After acquiring it, we recently did the MPFI upgrade and while having the upper...

    Cunifer brake line

Hi For any car with exposure to corrosive chemicals such as salt , cunifer should have been used at the time of manufacture. It really is a safety issue for aging cars.

Dreaded GM 3800 intake manifold gasket problem?

Hi I would second the APN UIM as it has the reduced diameter egr chimney and steel sleeve for the manifold. Either the FelPro Problem solver or GM will work fine.

New rocker panels. A rust proofing question.

Hi The cladding for the Regal is different. It comes off easily using Christmas tree fasteners. There are no mounting pins welded to the rocker. The car is very sold and the only issue was the outer panels so I guess I am fortunate. After stripping the primer and allowing a flash coat of rust...

New rocker panels. A rust proofing question.

Hi This is a Regal..so 4 doors and bottom cladding. I will not be repairing the existing rockers as I already have new stamped metal. Unfortunately, its already painted with primer. The repair will mean cutting out the existing ones and welding these complete rockers.

    '99 Park Avenue - 3800 - Intake manifold failed.

Hi Make sure you drain the oil pan immediately. Drain the cooling system including the block by pulling the lower radiator hose. Now with fresh fill oil oil and filter.... Remove all the spark plugs and with the fuel pump unplugged from its source of current, crank the engine over to purge...

New rocker panels. A rust proofing question.

Hi Not a beater definitely. These are new panels and I would like to eliminate the chance for future interior rot as much as possible.

New rocker panels. A rust proofing question.

Hi I have not been able to read any reference to fresh paint/primer (not their own) on any of these products. Most information speaks of "pre conditioned" metal , i.e. rusty. POR15 does speak of new metal (unfinished) which must be prepped using their marine clean and etch fluids first...

New rocker panels. A rust proofing question.

Hi They are painted both sides. Should the insides be stripped or merely sanded/scuffed up for POR 15? I expect to use their marine clean and etching products before applying. I just wished these panels weren't painted on the insides.

New rocker panels. A rust proofing question.

Hi I just received new rocker panels for my regal. I would like to treat the insides with a encapsulator such as POR 15, Chassis Saver,or Eastwoods. Since the panels are painted by the manufacturer, for something like POR 15, should the existing paint be stripped first?
