I'm currently partially restoring a 1962 GMC K1000 Suburban, and fixing up my 1972 Norton 750 Commando. Rebuilt the flathead in the 1949 Mercury I had, and had a BSA 441 Victor Special.
I helped a buddy rebuild a 289 Ford in his Donzi Sweet 16 boat. He broke it in on the trailer and then parked it for the winter. In the spring he jacked up part of the Volvo outdrive before it even hit the water and had to pull the engine. He found some rust in the cylinders and we concluded the...
If you can smell gasoline on your dipstick, are you causing increased wear? Does some fuel evaporate out of the oil during normal running or extendeded driving if more isn't being added? What percentage of fuel dilution causes increased wear? Would you say engine oil is fairly tolerant to fuel...
I looked at owner's manual and it says overfilled is a possible warning when oil level is checked through I Drive. So I suppose I'm good since the indicator says "Max"
Couldn't hardly see the oil level in the thin window on 5L Castrol Edge 0W40 bottle, and accidentally overfilled by 3/4 quart. That's 7-3/4 quarts in a system that normally says full with 7 quarts. I did drain it quite thoroughly and let it sit with the drain plug out for several hours. The oil...
My 2003 4WD Silverado 4.8 I bought new has 62K miles and I've got several choices for a transfer case fluid change, the third change since new. It is a manual transfer case. I rarely use 4WD.
I have all these fluids already: Autotrak II, TES 295, Red Line D4. The Autotrak II I have no other...
I rebuilt the Stromberg WW on my 1961 GMC V6 305 4WD Suburban and post rebuild, it would run fine, but I had to prime it to get it to start. I took it apart again, and found debris in the screw that holds down the accelerator pump nozzles. The hollow screw is also the fuel passage for the...
Beautiful! What's the color called? I want to paint mine either light blue or this blueish green seafoam color.
I think that is called Seafoam Green and is a stock Chevrolet paint color.
This cooler line pump out used to be called the "Hoot" method. I did it at 25 and 50K miles on my 2003 Silverado that now has 62K miles. I used TES 295 Transynd fluid both times. I pumped 12 quarts through each time.
"Planned obsolescence has been around a long time."
I've heard Ford studied cars in junk yards to learn what was overbuilt and lasted too long. Maybe in the 1930's
