e85 ethanol gas in 08 Pontiac Vibe

If you put in larger injectors you need to adjust the parameters for the tune in the PCM. While it has some ability to compensate, not properly tuning the vehicle makes for all sorts of issues. The pulse width of the injectors as well as the total flow parameters are very important for proper...

Vented Gas Cans Can Now Be Sold

I just buy the kits to refit my gas can, they sell that at Menards right next to the cans. Drill a hole for the vent, push in the vent, throw away just junk spout and swap to the good ones with a simple cap on them. Be nice if we could go back to not having to buy a $10 kit to make a gas can...

    Largest displacement now / ever

I've owned a couple 454s in trucks, my current truck is a 6.2L(376) L86. Cars, a number of 305 and 350s, currently 2 350s in the Camaros. I prefer my V8 engines but I've also owned a couple 4 cylinders when I needed something that got good gas mileage for long distance stuff for work.

    Pro sports teams location movement

Still trying to figure out where they actually want to put it. My guess is they are trying to get whatever tax money will be the highest before they decide on a final site.

    DMV experience

We don't have the old ladies here in my town but they sure do like to take forever to do anything. And now they require you to setup an appointment to do anything other than stickers, which is annoying to say the least. I didn't even bother trying to get a REAL ID back when it started, just...

    Pro sports teams location movement

As much as I loath Chicago, there is no way any team in Chicago is going anywhere. Chicago fans will pay just about anything to watch their teams play, regardless of whether they are good or not. The Cubs went 108 years without a WS win and the stadium was still packed every year. Bears have...

What does a stock Coyote 5.0 Mustang sound like?

Don't remember any of them being stock back in the day, first thing I remember every Mustang owner doing around my area was cutting off the cats and putting on the cheapest hi-flow mufflers they could find. Which resulted in a terrible sounding exhaust to say the least. Not that most of the...

    5.7 Chevy Engine Questions

Agreed. I have never seen or heard of piston slap on the SBC. LSx, definitely, especially the earlier ones like the LS1/LS6, and the 4.8/5.3/6.0 engines derived from the LS1.

    1992 Corvette transmission Fluid

Dexron 3, 6, or Maxlife, it really won't matter. The 700R4/4L60/4L60E will operate on any of them without issue. I've used all 3 of them in numerous versions of this transmission over the years. My 89 Camaro currently has Maxlife in it, my brother 99 Suburban is currently running Dex6. I...

Thermostat opinions - Lower Set point for Summer

Yes, this has been a common "mod" for a long time on many vehicles. While it works, I don't recommend it. Reprogramming the ECM/PCM is the best option as you have full control over the exact temperatures. Although it does tend to be a bit pricier than a resistor I suppose.

Anyone else running local LLM? What do you think?

I setup one a while back but didn't really get into playing with it much. Just haven't had the time. I threw it together from an old couple of decommed servers we were throwing out from work. Its a a little old but I managed to get 128GB of RAM into it and a few TB of hard drive space as...

Thermostat opinions - Lower Set point for Summer

Just swapping out the thermostat really won't make any difference. You also need to adjust when the fans come on if you want to take advantage of a lower thermostat. I have 160s in both my Camaros as these cars were setup to run hot for emissions reasons from the factory. Especially the LT1...

Would you buy a new Mitsubishi?

Used to have the Mistubishi plant over in Normal IL that is now the Rivian plant. Always plenty of Eclipses running around as that is what the plant built and they were cheap. They were also always on the side of the road here in Central IL as well. I'm definitely in the pass category.

    Universal HVAC Capacitor

Lot of money for the universal option, although I suppose if you had a bunch of rentals or business units it might be handy if they are all different values. I just keep the correct rated caps for my units, although they have all been replaced in the last few years so its mostly insurance at...

    Water heater advice

Probably 7-8 years ago my 50 gallon water heater started weeping at the bottom. Looked into tankless but it would have been a huge cost as my current vent was not up to spec for a tankless heater. I ended up just buying a regular 40 gallon gas water heater as gas is what was the old one was...
