I actually have some of it. Bought the kit (paste and liquid). I've put it on a few of my guns and so far it seems to work pretty well. It seems like some type of plant fat that smells like mint. When it heats up it becomes liquid (I am guessing around 120F) otherwise it is more like a paste at...
I am sorry - It's a 15W50 Mobil 1. Not sure what the problem is either, but I am thinking that the pushrod engines don't like it as much. Not worried about damage, just it's an annoying consequence of that particular oil in my two Harley engines. Probably will go back to the Amsoil which worked...
I just put Mobil1 5W40 in 2 Harley Davidson that have been running Rotella 5W40 and before that the Amsoil 20W50. The Rotella ran fine, but it seemed like the bike ran cooler on the Amsoil.
However, I am hearing a TON of lifter noise on both a Twin Cam and Evo engine after I changed to Mobil...
Terry just did a great analysis on my Honda AT - I love the new audio he includes with it. I think he talked for close to 15 minutes about my transmission.
He seems to like the RLI product, so what? If you don't see improvements in the UOA, then he is wrong. It's pretty black and white to me...
Thanks for the input. I am out of the SF oil, and unless he is back in business I will have to switch to something else. I plan to take it in to have a pan drop (I don't like messing with AT pan seals).
I use an extractor, because I don't have ramps for this van.
Yeah, I've used Terry's...
Yes the first analysis was 100% Z1. Not sure the Z1 viscosity or TAN starting point. I believe the trans is 5qts (but I don't have the manual in front of me at this moment). I am wondering if the iron is from the differential. I did send this out to Terry Dyson as well.
This is what I did...
I went with the Amsoil 0W20 over the 5W20 in the Tundra for 2 reasons:
1) It's the oil I use in the Honda Odyssey and the Odyssey travels to the snow. It's nicer to only carry 2 types of oil (1 for the cars, 1 for the motorcycles)
2) The Amsoil 0W20 has a better add pack and it has a better...
Joe424,
Glad to see that you are going to do a UOA. One suggestion other people have made is that you might want to wait a few OCIs before you start the UOAs. There is a lot of "noise" in the first few OCIs (break in metal, assembly lubes, etc.). Now I did it anyway with my Honda just to see...
I've been away from this forum for maybe a year, and it is nice to see the Louis LaPointe and the 5W20 debate is still alive.
I am going to hide under my rock again...
Are you going to extended the Oil Change Interval? The 0W30 is a good choice.
If you are going to change it a manufacturers guidelines? save a few $$ and go with the 5W30 - it's still a very good oil.
If you are changing it more often or 3K miles? Use any SM rated oil. Anything else is a...
Trying to go a full year on my amsoil 0W20 in a Toyota Tundra (spec'd for 5W30).
It's only been 4 months so far so I can't draw any conculsions yet. This truck has all short distance driving (under 5MI per trip). Temps in my neck of the woods are routinely over 100F in the summer. I will be...
I have a problem with that article. It states that transfer pricing is an issue with supposed water's edge corporations. The whole reason we have the water's edge corps is to encourage outside investment in the US. Face it, the labor in this country is expensive. You want Asian and European...
Glad to hear they are offering the service again. But they are going to start charging for it in 2-3 years? seems a little crazy. I am sure I am paying for it in my $20 a month garbage bill but I recently read that our city recycles more than 50% of the total weight of our trash.
The city...
