2003 Honda Accord k24 Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30

I’m leaning towards stuck rings since the engine only has about 170k miles on it. The engine came out of an 04 accord. I have 2000 miles to go on this OCI before my next change. Maybe I’ll see some improvement in that time. Looks like it’ll be around October when I change it.

Ok so it was a blueish white smoke not black. At one time it was black smoke but that was before I changed my catalytic converter and o2 sensors.

Mostly after cruising at highway speeds then flooring it hard I’ll get some smoke out the tailpipe. I’m inclined to think it’s the rings sticking which is why im hoping that this restore and protect will work for me.

Oh I forgot to mention but it does smoke on full throttle acceleration looks like black smoke. I’m thinking the rings are stuck but I have a little under 2000 miles to go for my next oil change. I’ll be sticking with Valvoline Restore and Protect and see how it goes after this next OCI. Worse...

2003 Honda Accord k24 Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30

Update so I’m back from my trip. It ended up being around 1300 miles total. I did burn 2 quarts of oil during this trip. I burned 1 qt going and 1 qt on the way back. I am glad that I bought by a 5 qt jug of the oil before this trip since I was able to top off with it both times. Not sure...

2003 Honda Accord k24 Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30

So small update. So far I can say the amount of time between top off has increased and the oil burning has gotten a little bit better. Now I’m at about 900-1000 miles/1 month before I need to add a quart. I’m still running the 5w30 Valvoline Restore and Protect. Soon I’ll be taking my trip and...

2003 Honda Accord k24 Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30

I’m using the 5w30. Never been a fan of anything 20wt so I’ve always used 5w30 or 10w30 in all my vehicles with a smattering of 5w40 at times during the summer months. I’ve always wanted to try Amsoil but that’ll have to wait until I can stop burning a quart every 500 miles. Don’t really want to...

Ooh I’m just curious about it. I’ll probably use it in my friend’s 5.0 since he does have the BBQ tick. Heard it works on those.

2003 Honda Accord k24 Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30

So far I’m still burning about a quart every 500-600 miles so no change there. It does seem like it’s a little bit cleaner looking through the oil fill hole so I’m inclined to say it’s cleaning something. I do know looking at my dipstick the oil is black when I go to top off. I’m gonna try and...

2003 Honda Accord k24 Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30

I just looked back into some of the history and it seems like I only started really burning oil once I switched to the Valvoline Restore and Protect. Before I was using Pennzoil euro and went 1500 miles before needing a top off. I have seen results with the Valvoline Restore and Protect on some...

Surely the product cant be that bad. I used it in my Jeep once before and it seemed fine the whole time it was in the oil. I will admit I’m not the most knowledgeable about oil but I have a decent understanding.

I’m a little scared to do a piston soak. I’ve heard of people ending up with rod knock after doing it. I’m probably just gonna stick with changing the filter about every 2-3k miles and topping off the oil (I work in a shop I get oil and filters for free) then I’ll keep cutting them open to...

I just feel like having fresh oil in the sump before running the car 1200 miles would be a good thing. The additives would be fresh and working with the journey.

Ok I’m changing the oil a little over 1k in so I can cut my oil filter open and see how it looks. Currently the oil filter in place is a Carquest EP filter. My next filter is the Mobil 1 M1-104a (I believe it’s the bigger S2000 version of the M1-110a that’s stock for most Hondas)
