I wouldn't run a 40 in a Mod motor unless the car was seeing heavy track use or it was very hot for most of the year. Mod motors were designed around 30 weight oils, the 20 is just to meet CAFE. I run 30 as my car sees the track from time to time. but you can run 20 for over 200,000 miles and...

1/4" over full mark. should I drain excess?

Dipsticks aren't always accurate. in a 4v mustang they call for 6.25 qt, many don't show full till 7qt is put in. And the pan will HOLD 9 before even hitting the windage tray. Its better to have a little to much then not enough.

    M1 0w-30 vs GC 0w-30

Sounds like M1 is what I'm looking for then. Thanks guys.

    M1 0w-30 vs GC 0w-30

Old man says to listen to Ford engineers, then when a Ford Engineer says differently then him he says not to. I'll take his opinion when he start making useful posts and not just flaming everyone.

    M1 0w-30 vs GC 0w-30

The part that I like most is that M1 is certified for Ford, and GC isn't. But I hear a lot of people running CG in Fords with no problems. How important is meeting that "requirement"?

    M1 0w-30 vs GC 0w-30

Hey Guys, I was at the store yesterday and saw that M1's 0w-30 is about 75c less then GC's, and $2.50 less if I get the 5qt container. I did not find any tests of the M1, what are people's opinions on it?

    04 honda 1.7 and mobil 1

If the originally equipped filter is a FRAM then where is the problem? I would assume that Honda tested this before putting them on the cars.

Dont use heavier then rec'd oil in FORD VCT cars

Exactly, I've worked on/building VCT Zetec equipped cars since 1998, when did YOU start working on them? Apparently if I join recently it means I cant be familiar with a system in existence since 1996? That shows a HUGE lack of logic. The reason I posted was simply to help save people form...

Dont use heavier then rec'd oil in FORD VCT cars

It costs $400 for a dealer to replace the VCT system. My post is not about people running a heavier then rec'd for one change. It's for people that are running it ALL THE TIME. It will causes added wear on the VCT system then what the car was spec'd to run. Both those patents were filed AFTER...

Dont use heavier then rec'd oil in FORD VCT cars

I am talking real wold. No one is talking theory here. The 30 is been connected to higher VCT failure rate. its doesn't make it die on first use, but its been noted that 30 makes it die faster. When I say 30 vs 20 I'm talking on the Zetec, I don't know what the new 4.6 is recommended.

Dont use heavier then rec'd oil in FORD VCT cars

Exactly why I posted up. Before 2001 all Fords cars were calling for 5w30, but after the change to 20 the amount of VCT failures dropped, which is how we first made the connection. People still running 30 had problems, no one with 20 did.
