If you saw my other recent cut-open filter, the TG4386, this is the oil change I needed to do when I discovered that train wreck. Car is a 1997 Mustang GT, ~55,000 miles on the clock, about 4,000 miles / two years on this oil change. Oil was 5W-30 Penzoil Platinum. Generally the Mustang...

I know people here love to see things pushed to the limits. This was not my intention! Wanted to change the oil in the '97 Mustang this morning, but had to move mother-in-law's Suzuki Aerio in some driveway Tetris to get the Mustang out. I had been asking sister-in-law, the usual driver of the...

Looking for a new string trimmer

When my wife and I first bought our house...there was more weeds than lawn...and since we were new homeowners...funds were limited. I bought a Bolens string trimmer...the cheapest that Home Depot had. Fast forward three years later...and the Bolens had ticked me off for the last time...refusing...

    O2 sensor question...

Back when I had my 1994 Ford Probe...I had the oxygen sensor throw a code one day. I was just out of college, not making a lot of money, and I think that the replacement sensor was rather costly. One of the forums I subscribed to (not BITOG, yet...) suggested a test with a voltmeter and a...

Low oil and coolant level sensors

My wife's Lancer has neither. My Mustang has both low oil and low coolant IIRC. The Tundra I'm pretty sure has neither. One of the things I've always thought was inconsistent on the Mustang was that while it had these low-level indicators, the oil pressure "gauge" isn't a real gauge, it's...

    Reconditioning for tired Briggs twin

My few cents...figure out why its got low compression before you do anything. If it is the rings...the ball hone may do more harm than good as you're removing a tiny bit of metal from the cylinder walls and making it even harder for the rings to seat. thanks, ben

Nissan GX1000 Generator - rod knock / other issue?

Good afternoon all, A couple of months ago I picked up a Nissan GX1000 generator that dates from the mid-1980's the best I can tell. It is a four stroke, 3,600 RPM unit rated at 750 watts AC output and has a 12V DC output of a rating I cannot remember. After cleaning out the fuel system...
