    Battery smoking hot

A battery with a shorted cell, will be super hot with an alternator charging. The next thing to happen is that it can explode, if you try to crank the engine.

    Done with inkjet

I've got a Samsung laserjet printer. But the cheapest per page got to be the Epson dot-matrix printer which I used for printing receipts, double copy. The ink ribbon last thousands of pages and cost much less than a toner.

    Battery change memory savers

For memory saving, I use a small lithium-ion jump starter plugged into the DC socket, with a modified cable, EC5 connector and a fused plug. Then I'd turn on the ignition to connect up the circuit, before replacing battery. I tried to connect at the battery terminal, but sometimes, the clip...

    Excessive battery terminal corrosion

I have to deal with quite a few corrosion. Some are so bad, it covered the whole terminal and usually it's so badly corroded that it need to be changed. To clear the corrosion salt, I use a water jet in a small pressurized container.

    Very over tightened drain plug

I had an old van whose oil sump nut was damaged. If I tightened the bolt a bit too much, it would skip a thread and goes back to being loose. So I just hand-tight the bolt as far as it'll hold, that's it. Well, it doesn't leak much oil until the next oil change. As contrast to overtightening...

    Got A New Flashlight...

I just got a nitecore NU20 http://flashlight.nitecore.com/ILLUMINATION/NU/NU20/ It's very lightweight, with built-in lithium battery. My favourite thus far, for working at night.

6 month old battery corrosion on (+) terminal

Over-tightening and weak seal. My battery supplier originally use this. We get quite a lot of corrosion leakage. Then they change to this, presumably less prone to leakage.
