i and almost all the other guys that i run hornets(4cyl stock, road course)with use some type of 20-50. with the high temps and stress youll loss viscosity quick. i have to change my oil every 2 or 3 races(maybe 30-40mi.) so rp is out of the question. seems like any 20-50 will do. i prefer not...
-i was wondering if a tt would have an oil cooler. and i think im with VG on the 10-40.
--I run a gen 1 3sge. 4cyl. toyota. am looking at doing an oil cooler aswell though my temps are ok (cant be to safe). same type thing where the 3sgte(turbo) has an oil cooler. and is a pretty quick fit...
if money is np then id go RP with a mobil1 or p1 filter. the main thing with a track car is residual heat. your car never has time to cool. the water pump is running so fast the coolant doesnt have enough time to cool in the radiator. same with the oil pump. some people actually remove some of...
IMO royal purple would be the way to go for about anything based on looking at the VOA's. however it is expensive. i would use it if i didnt have to change my oil every 2 races due to viscosity loss(id be like 35 bucks a race just in oil). i found my balance of price/quality with valvoline...
im still new here but i would highly advise against going lighter. running that hard creates way more heat in the engine. especially if you only have 4 quarts of oil to cool the internals with. id go 20-50 synth. my track car turns that to water in less than a hundred miles at the track. so you...
how many miles on the motor? miss any shifts while driving. could have been over reved. the few motors ive seen with spun bearings are usually the bearings farthest from the pump. (like this one?) as they see the lowest pressure. i run a 3sge 4cyl toyota motor, and they are very suseptable to...
as far as ive read the only thing that makes a difference with plugs is the material. w/ iriduim being the longest lasting. that said if it makes a spark it works. my truck calls for iridium and there like $10ea. x8... thats alot for spark plugs i could use 3 sets of copper plugs to get to the...
wow thanks for all the info guys your input is very helpfull.
1) I fully agree with the "get rid of the ford" bit, but hey she likes it. 100% yota guy myself.
2) I selected the oil after looking at a ton of VOA's and resarch. this seems to be a good choice/within justifiable oil budget for me...
so i changed the oil in the ole ladys focus last week. no idea what was in it before(cheap dino im sure), and was probably at 7k from last change. its a 2007 w/ 36k or so. i put in valvoline syntech 5-30 w/ p1 filter.(recomended is 5-20) but she drives stop n go all the time. anyway started it...
A) hornet is a class. 4-cyl, STOCK, on road-course(some do dirt cicle track). think of it as 4-cyl demo on a road course. very fun. pretty much the "cheapest" way to race. unless you wanna auto-x i guess. you can look up some vids on youtube.
B)thanks for the VR1 info. i saw the much debated...
will the added zinc really benifit me? i dont have tappets or rockers, ect.. seems like thats the big fuss. i can see how a shim over bucket would be reasonably close to a roller rocker in terms of wear.
any auto part store should have atleast the one for a/c system might have to cruise around for the coolant stuff. the light is usually the overpriced part. i just used one of thoose 2 dollar black light bulbs from halloween (think safeway has em year round) and screwed it into a drop light...
ok so my head is now swimming with all the info you can find on oil. heres what i got. 87 celica GT-S 2.0l DOHC. this is a hornet race car. the engine is a jdm stock replacement(aprox.50k-?) w/ no upgrades, also no egr or emmisions systems. approx. 155hp. i run a road course so car is run very...
