    Consumer Reports on Direct Injection

We have a Mazda6 with DI and have seen oil dilution, especially in cold temps. Last winter I changed out the oil with only 828 miles on it because it smelled like gas. The analysis showed 4.8% fuel dilution. It's going to be really interesting to see what kind of longevity we see with the DI...

    '94 turbo Miata UOA

It's got the standard oil gauge in the dash. Reads a bit low for my liking - probably 15lbs idle hot, and just under 30lbs hot on the highway at ~3000rpm, but Miata gauges aren't known for being real accurate. I've got a mechanical gauge for the Exocet and will try to sort out the thread adapter...

    '94 turbo Miata UOA

Don't know much about the history of the car. I do have a pile of receipts but no machine shop receipts. Just found an old e-mail and the previous owner says the bottom end was rebuilt at around 133K, and doing the math, since the car has 140K on it now, the oil I just changed out was probably...

    '94 turbo Miata UOA

First UOA on this car. It's a new (to me) '94 Miata with a FM II turbo. The car has 140K miles on it, but the motor has been apart at least once, and supposedly not that long ago. The oil is Red Line 10w40 with 7,500 miles which is a lot longer than I'd normally run it. Talked to Blackstone and...

    2014 Mazda 6 - 0W-20 with Fuel Dilution

Updating my old thread with new results. The temps were much warmer, there were far fewer short trips, and several long trips. We did a six hour round trip - three hours each way over the labor day weekend. Oil dilution still seems a little high at 1.3%. I think it's just the direct injection...

    2014 Mazda 6 - 0W-20 with Fuel Dilution

UOA'd oil was from dealer oil change at about 1500 miles. No clue what they used, but would guess bulk. The quarts I bought at the parts counter to replace that oil were Peak 0W-20. Talked to Mazda and there's not much they can do, and I don't want them taking my engine apart at this point...

    2014 Mazda 6 - 0W-20 with Fuel Dilution

Answering a couple of questions - The dealer did the first change and I recall looking at it afterwards and wondering why they overfilled it, but at that point it wasn't a quart over or I would have brought it back to them. So no, I'm pretty sure that extra quart isn't all gas, or it would be...

    2014 Mazda 6 - 0W-20 with Fuel Dilution

Greetings, long time visitor here, first post, and for that matter, my first UOA. We bought a shiny new gas-powered Mazda6 in October, now with 2,500 miles. Did the first oil change after break-in at 1500. Checked the oil the other day and it was about a quart high and smelled badly of gas so I...
