    Mercury Four Stroke 10w30 / 42 Hours / 2019 Mercury Four Stroke 200 3.4L V6

This oil was conventional - “red label” bottle. Mercury does offer a syn blend, it has a white label and states syn blend on the bottle.

    Mercury Four Stroke 10w30 / 42 Hours / 2019 Mercury Four Stroke 200 3.4L V6

Considering switching to Rotella T5 10w30 when my warranty is up as the engine is spec’d for 10w30. The Mercury oil is straight conventional, and is a “catalyst compatible” oil, both of which are reasons I would like to get away from it. It is hard to find an oil with the marine NMMA approval...

    Redline 5w-20 / 9,700mi on oil / 2014 5.7 Hemi Durango R/T

I think you are right - once those lifters start eating the cam, it’s trouble pretty quick. I too, have read and watched in depth on this subject and have come to think it’s a combination of multiple factors mentioned on this forum and others. As far as catching it on the UOA, I’ll contemplate...

    Redline 5w-20 / 9,700mi on oil / 2014 5.7 Hemi Durango R/T

Good advice - I think I pretty much ran it to it’s limit, despite the 12K Blackstone recommendation. I have learned a lot about the oil through this thread, in fact wouldn’t have caught the viscosity increase in my report if it weren’t for the members here. I may have run it to 12k, hadn’t I...

    Redline 5w-20 / 9,700mi on oil / 2014 5.7 Hemi Durango R/T

Good eye - I see now that virgin RL 5/20 has a 9.0 CSt at 100C. Curios as to why - maybe the 2 year interval? My understanding is that it’s the heat cycles and extreme temps that oxidize, not time in sump. The oil frequently sees 230-240 degrees in towing duty for my application, but that...

    Redline 5w-20 / 9,700mi on oil / 2014 5.7 Hemi Durango R/T

Here’s my first UOA on my Durango with a relatively long oil run. I have seen poor performance (low TBN) of Redline in other reports and thought I would post this. I’m completely happy with the job it’s doing to protect this engine. The oil run was also over a two year period, as I don’t drive...

    DIY projects with UMO?

Around my property I use it as a fire starter - we have 10 acres and are always burning brush. I pour about a gallon of it on my brush pile and then light with newspaper. BTW, mine always contains a mix of brake fluid and trans fluid too!

Ram Hemi hydraulic lifter failure...oil related?

I have enjoyed reading this post and this is, by far, the most interesting one I have found pertaining to root cause. It seems the one weak link that has not been addressed by Johnson, FCA, or anyone, may be the plastic retainers. Is there, or will there be a solution? The fact that Johnson has...

How often should one change low mileage vehicles due to acids?

I have a hard time changing perfectly good oil, and have had an interest in this topic for the last few years - I'm currently (and carefully) monitoring my 2 year OCI's on my 1969 Corvette. I use Brad Penn 10w30, and drive it 500-1000 miles a year. No short trips, Qjet carb (so fuel is metered...

WS VS T-IV Real world observation

I too have a vehihicle running T-IV (2003 Pontiac Vibe AWD), and WS (2008 Sienna AWD). I would say my observations have been somewhat opposite - The Vibes fluid was dark and burnt by 80K and was changed with authentic WS, now at 150K and needing changed again. I changed the Siennas fliud at...
