    Multigrade oils...

what i said was the older (@pre 95's)flat tappet engines take straight weights (sae30-40), and the new roller engines take multigrades (15w-40) My 5.0 1992 Ford flat tappet requires a 40 weight, and the new 5.0 chev req 15w-40 because they are roller valve train designs.

    Multigrade oils...

Most likely because a flat tappet drive trains will chew up multi-grades. Marine engines used to be (pre 1990?)flat tappet, now they are mostly roller valve trains. Much easier on oil. Also, water and viscosity improvers do not mix well.

there is no thick of thin 30w

if GC measures 12.1 Cst in every bottle, and your engine oil is at 212f, you get a 0w-37.5

there is no thick of thin 30w

I'm just going by memory from years ago, but in the boating world, a 40w at 240f is equal to a 30w at 200f is like a 20w at 180f. They were all about 10.0 cst. depending on how hot your oil operating temp is.

there is no thick of thin 30w

When i had a Jepp 4.0 a few years ago, i was trying to get more oil pressure. The gauge would show 20 psi at idle. I asked Havoline if using a 10w-40 would raise my pressures. He said no, because the thicker oil woul run hotter and be at the same pressure and viscosity as a cooler 10w-30.

there is no thick of thin 30w

Chevron is 12.5 at 212. This is an average from them. You could have a 10.0 vis of it in your car right now. All i am saying is that a 30w is (can be) different in every bottle you buy of the same brand, depending on when it was made.

there is no thick of thin 30w

I don't post often, but i hear a lot of a thick or thin 30w. I realize that a 30 w has a range to fall between to be considered a 30w. I have talked with Mobil, Havoline and Castrol, and they all said the same thing. The oil is measured at 212f for the viscosity. If that temp is 213 or 211...

    Honda Shadow

I had one of these for my wife. 4 speed, very easy cruising at 80 mph. Tall gears. Use the coolant for aluminum engines. I used Prestone silicat phos free green stuff. 2-3/8 qrts of 10w-40, and a 7317 filter and you are set. Good price at $650. The styles haven't chnged for 15 yrs. Mine was a...

    Bike Batteries

Most have cca of 180 at 32 f. If you have thick oil, it might turn over hard. Yuasa batteries will have as much as 200 cca. A co-worker bought a "batteries plus" battery, and it failed after 1 year. I would stay away from that one.

    delo 400 vs MC synth

I have a Triumph Speed Four, and i use the Mobil 1 15w-50 silver cap now. I have used the Gold cap. I would not use the Delo, because doesn't Triumph spec 15w-50? I feel the Mobil 1 15w-50 is a syn blend. So you will be safe with M1.
