Valvoline and Pennzoil, both part of the quick lube market (Jiffy/VIOC), have always been conservative on drain intervals.

I will say that I always change my oil at 5000 mi or 6 mo, which ever comes first and I typically use a name brand synthetic like...

If I manufactured toothbrushes, I'd recommend a new one weekly. :)
