So...I'm much newer to the oil filter world here on BITOG than I am on the oil side of things. I see a lot of gripes here about Purolators tearing and I understand that can be a serious problem, but are there any cases here on BITOG where an engine failure has actually been caused by a faulty...
The BITOGer in my says "whoa! High Iron!"
The realist in me says, great engine, you'll never experience an oil-related failure and the engine will outlast the rest of the car. Good luck

I would think that any 0W-30 might give minuscule fuel economy advantages. But the way you can really save a little cash using a 0W-30, is that by definition, 0W will be a synthetic. Because your car has a turbo, extended drains may not be your best bet, because the oil will be put through the...
I was at my local O'Reilly today switching out a battery that had gone bad. I decided to pick up a M1 filter for an oil change, as I had forgotten to get one before. My guy there, who I know a little, asked why I never bought oil there. I told him that they couldn't beat the prices of $25.xx for...
I actually think that the drift away from 5W-20 is a reaction to the relatively low number of manufacturers that recommend it (the only ones that come to mind are the majority of Fords and some Chryslers). There is, however, an extremely fast growing number of manufacturers recommending 0w20 --...
I have the FB25 that specs 0W20 in my Forester (essentially your engine with bigger displacement) and have used among others: Castrol Gold, Pennz Platinum, Valvoline Synpower, Amsoil Signature, Subaru Genuine, and Mobil 1 -- all in 0W20
Although Mobil 1 gets a lot of flak on here, I find it to...
Hi all,
Long time fan of the site, but this is my first topic. I'm very excited to hear the opinions of those here smarter than I. I have a 2011 Forester with 40000 and the FB25 engine that specs synthetic 0w-20 but allows for conventional 5w-30 and 5w-40 only as a top-off (even though...
Are you positive that your Legacy specs 5W-30? I have a 2011 Forester with an FB25 and it specs 0w-20 in all temperature ranges. I really doubt that there is a difference in oil for these two if the only difference between the engines is the car that they are seated in
Interesting, I was on QS's website not two weeks ago and this wasn't listed as one of their offerings. For a synblend, it's not remarkably thin at cold temperatures. Valvoline Durablend 5w-20 is thinner...
Post hoc ergo propter hoc
It seems like there might be something else wrong with this engine. My aunt has this Ecotec and ran her second fill to around 12k with no problems
