Have you ever had a fuel issue from a gas station?

I had water in the fuel from a station once in a company car. Just kept diluting it with fresh gas until it ran OK. A friend had a 1970's Mazda rotary engine (RX-3 I think) that he found out he had water in the fuel only after he had the engine apart to replace the rotor seals to fix his rough...

Used Riding Lawnmower - Which Brand and Model

$40 for yard service sounds more than reasonable. My son runs a lawn service and $50 is his minimum for a postage stamp sized lot. 1/2 acre lot would be more like $75, but he cuts, weed eats, edges sidewalks/driveways, and blows. Don't know how long your growing season is in Tennessee but do the...

    2009 Mercury Grand Marquis

The Grand Marquis was an add on to the fleet. My wife drives an Acura RDX and I have a GMC pickup, both with 160,000 miles. I kept both but wanted a comfortable highway car that was reliable and will probably outlive me. I still enjoy doing my own maintenance (I am slower getting up off the...

    2009 Mercury Grand Marquis

My other two possible choices were a 3.8 LeSabre or LaCrosse and I had my eye on a 2010 Town Car with 120,000 miles before I found the Grand Marquis. The 3.8 and 4.6 are both bullet proof if taken care of. My mother always drove Buick Electra 225's back in the '60's and '70's. Now that was a...

    2009 Mercury Grand Marquis

(I'm not a newbie here, had been off for a while and had to make a new account) I recently bought my official old man car (will be 78 in a couple of months.) I found a two owner '09 Grand Marquis with 83,000 miles, Florida car all it's life. The interior is perfect (egg shell leather) and the...

    Valvoline Restore and Protect

Yes, it is a 2017 Canyon with the LGZ. Prior oils were either Mobil 1 5w30 or Havoline Lifelong Full Synthetic 5w30.

    Valvoline Restore and Protect

I put Valvoline Restore and Protect in my 130,000 mile V6 Canyon that had started using a quart between changes. It is almost time for the first change since the Valvoline Restore and Protect and it has lost no oil. Valvoline Restore and Protect apparently cleaned up clogged oil control rings...

What new vehicle / engine is worth owning ?

The GM 3.6 V6 gets a lot of hate on the internet, but my 2017 GMC Canyon has 135,000 trouble free miles. I bought it new and the only thing I have done to it is replace the spark plugs and the thermostat. I change the oil at about 15% left on the oil minder using whatever Dexos synthetic 5w30...

Anybody getting tired of South Main Auto?

From the looks of most of the cars he works on, most folks don't bother with rust proofing. I regularly see 5 or 6 year old cars with less than 80,000 miles with holes in the frame you could stick your fist through.

Anybody getting tired of South Main Auto?

Before my rural area got fiber optic internet it would take 2 or 3 hours to upload a 4 minute video to my YouTube channel. I would start the download just before I went to bed and it would upload while I slept. Now with highspeed internet the video is finished uploading before I can type out the...

    “Arctic Pipeline” bringing cold weather

It is snowing and accumulating here in North Florida this morning. It is expected to continue all day and reach 2 or 3 inches by nightfall. Lake Charles, La. is under a blizzard warning!

1968 Cadillac Fleetwood 7.7L V8 472cu Limousine 75 series- would you enjoy this vehicle as a project?

That 472 was a torque monster, 525 lb-ft.. I would put it in a vintage hot rod and go cruising.

I lost another friend. My message to all of you.

I ran into the wife of an old friend I had not seen in a couple of years last spring in the garden department of Lowe's and asked how he was doing. She told me he had Alzheimer's. I went to see him the next day and he had no idea who I was. I got a call from his wife this past weekend telling...

Have you ever had a leak after an oil change?

Yep. Over fifty years ago, early in my shade tree mechanic career. I didn't check to see if the gasket on the old filter stuck to the engine and my wife drove off only to call me that the oil light came on. Lesson learned. I check the gasket every time since then.
