In current name brand oils is there any reason not to always use 5 W30 instead of 10 W30?

I use 0W30's and 0W40's. Thinner at startup = easier pumping = faster time to full flow lubrication. Some of the arguments I've heard from mechanics wanting me to run a 10 or 15-40 are like. "Hmmm, do you hear yourself?"

    7.6L V12 outboard motor. Why?

One of the problem with large inboard power plants (diesel or Petrol) is that they Often cause a lot of vibration and noise. With outboards, this is largely eliminated. Obviously for you mega yacht, you'll have a power house in the centre of the boa. But for the Miami crowd, charter fishing...

I really want to run Penrite 10/10th Racing Castor oil in my 120hp V4 outboard

Not permanently. But a tank or 2 mixed at the usual 50:1. Product information here: https://penriteoil.com.au/assets/pis_pdfs/10%20TENTHS%20RACE%20CASTOR%20OIL%2020W-40%20(Full%20Synthetic).pdf I recently won 8L of it at auction for a good price. And you know, it smells like speedway :D so...

Synthetic oil bad in a lawnmower? Any truth in this self proclaimed experts statements?

Pretty sure there is 0W30 Helix Ultra Low SAPS GTL based oil in my mower right now. Not sure the mower needs an oil with a VI of +200. but it can't hurt... And I have loads of it in the shed. so that's wheat it gets (once a year)

507 Oil for Reducing Oil Consumption

Don't stress mate. My Saab (9-5 turbo with 250k kms on it) doesn't smoke or leak oil. But it uses ~1L every 5,000kms. Which happens to be from High - to - Low on the dipstick. So that's when it gets changed. If it didn't use the oil, I'd probably change it out at 7,500kms anyway. UOA show's all...

Have You Used One Oil for the Life of a Vehicle?

Aside from running close to the line with regards to TBN and possibly investing in a new air filter a little more often. Id say: DON'T MESS WITH A WORKING SYSTEM ;) Pop the cam covers off and replace the gasket as well you slacker :D. (And if you've been using M1 since day 1. I'd say you'll...

Pennzoil Euro L 5W30 Synthetic In GDI Engine ?

Euro L is their DEXOS2 spec oil, generally specified for their light duty diesels (and high performance vehicles as it has a HTHS of >3.5.) It's a mid ash oil (0.8% from memory,) so absolutely is suitable for use in a GDi engine. If you want a slightly 'thinner' 30w oil that's still good for...

List of VW 502/505 and 504/507 Approved Oils

Well given their technical partnership with Mercedes which has a string of F1 world titles. I'd say their products should pass muster.

List of VW 502/505 and 504/507 Approved Oils

Great list. and thankyou for posting. As an Aussie, honestly surprised not to see: Nulon European on that list. Since they tout it specifically for VW504 on the bottle. That said, Penrite (and Gulf Western) both other Aussie brands have their products on the list... Regards Jordan

    Post your latest oil change

Recently had the oil checked from my Saab 9-5 turbo. 5000kms drain interval. I'd leave it longer, but like most Saab B235 engines, they use a little bit of oil. After 5,000kms the oil level is just on the end of the dipstick, so that's when it gets changed. I always use: Shell Helix Ultra 0W30...

EA888 how many go by the 10k mile factory recommended OCI...

There is a reason so many Saab B205/235 engines failed. and it's got alot to do with a 15,000kms (almost 10k-mile) factory service interval. Change every 5-7,000kms with a quality synthetic (+ drain and refill the oil cooler) and funnily enough the sludging issues go away… Regards Jordan

    Valvoline Advanced 5W40 MST

Valvoline MST oils are DEXOS-2 compliant, thus they have lower SAPS (Ultra-Low-Sulphur (span> fuels, both petrol and diesel. This oil is very similar to PP Euro L 5W30 in it's additive composition (except this has moly) This is my go-to-oil for light duty diesel's. Designed to help mitigate...

Pennzoil Euro LX 0w30 vs Quaker State Euro LX 0W30

Tis is the VOA of this oil I had done. You'll note the lower than quoted values for VI and V100°, so I enquired with Shell, they sent me this, based on the batch number i supplied them: Shell Brew this oil in at least 4 places (USA-Pennzoil-QS / Europe Netherlands? / Hong Kong - where...
