    Calling ZF 8HP Experts

Any updates? Just an anecdote, take it for what it's worth: On my E61 535i (ZF 6HP21) with nearly 200,000 miles I unwittingly wiped the adaptations doing a hard reflash of the transmission with the stock map (WinKFP). I didn't do anything special to let it re-learn. Just drove like a grandma...

    G48 coolant substitute, older Tesla

BMW phased out blue G48 in favor of the new green HT-12 and insists that it's backwards compatible with the older G48 spec cars. I would feel comfortable using HT-12 in the Tesla if that's what you can get.

Yokohama YK-GTX (Discount Tire Exclusive) Initial Thoughts

Agreed. I've never had a set of tires run as smoothly as these Yokos. I've used Kumho, Dunlop, Continental, Pirelli, Falken, Goodyear, and Bridgestone within the past five or so years. Supposedly Michelin is good about this also, but I haven't had the chance to try their tires.

We'll see how I like these Yokohamas first. One step at a time.

Yokohama YK-GTX (Discount Tire Exclusive) Initial Thoughts

If I wanted an "ultimate driving experience" I would have bought a 240i instead of this 4,100lb barge! :ROFLMAO: I may change my tune and get bored of these touring tires in a bit, but I've been looking for a softer ride for long storm chasing trips and these definitely deliver. If I do, I'll...

Yokohama YK-GTX (Discount Tire Exclusive) Initial Thoughts

I've gone through a couple sets of DWS06+ on a different BMW and really like that tire. It's a great all-rounder. However, I was only ever able to get 20-25k miles out of them. It may be wishful thinking, but I'm shooting for 30k out of these Yokos.

Yokohama YK-GTX (Discount Tire Exclusive) Initial Thoughts

No doubt, I do look forward to taking advantage of that 70,000 mile warranty when the time comes and will carefully maintain these tires. Today was my first time making use of a treadwear warranty and Discount Tire made it really painless. I wish I knew that earlier!

Yokohama YK-GTX (Discount Tire Exclusive) Initial Thoughts

Sorry, for some reason I thought I had my car listed in my signature! It's a 2021 BMW 530e.

Yokohama YK-GTX (Discount Tire Exclusive) Initial Thoughts

After obliterating the tread of my Kumho Solus TA91s in under four months and 9,000 miles (the guys at the shop were quite impressed!) and starting work in a new place without a fun mountain pass to haul through every weekend, I've shifted my priorities away from disposable tires to harder...

Some thoughts about non-Euro Oil in my Euro car.

I looked into ordering online but figured that, if it's anything like the Euro 5w-40, it'll be completely out of stock by my next oil change. Might as well rip off the band-aid now! (I'm also living at a hotel for work these next couple of months. Getting ten quarts of oil delivered to the front...

GM to Start Making LFP Cells in USA

Good news for U.S. industry! The potential for longer cell life with LFP chemistry is definitely a selling point for me.

Has the air traffic control issue at EWR been resolved?

Obviously the acute cause of the failure has been resolved (from what I understand, some wire burned up) but Newark Approach's radar is still run off of the same seemingly fickle copper datalink to N90 that failed recently. The nitty-gritty of it is probably only known by Tech Ops and the...

Some thoughts about non-Euro Oil in my Euro car.

Respectfully, all I said was that I plan on taking a sample. I'll post it here when the time comes, and you may do with it as you will. Nothing more that I can do.

Some thoughts about non-Euro Oil in my Euro car.

The deed has been done. My game plan was to use Quaker State Ultimate Protection 5w-30 - it seemed like a good, cost-conscious choice that I've used in the past. However, it appears that this line has been axed. It's out of stock at every Walmart I've checked. I instead settled for Castrol...

M1 Volatility - multiple vis products

This is a major bummer. I haven't seen QS 5w-40 on shelves for months now, and it appears that they've also taken QS Ultimate Protection off sale at all of the stores near me. They were a great "sleeper brand" for us folks. From a marketing perspective, it makes sense that they're sticking with...
