    Favorite YouTuber?

Thomas Johnson, restorer of antique furniture in Maine, is informative and entertaining in a low-key way. Recently, I've enjoyed watching ER videos out of St. George's Hospital, in London, England. Informative and at times emotional. I find Kilmer to be on target with his message, and I think...

OK folks! Change topic: From 10W-40 to 1040 Federal Income Tax. How do you file yours?

I'm retired and old school. I still file a paper return for both state and fed. Always have, always will, until such is outlawed. But first I run all the numbers through the online tax calculator at dinkytown.net, so I know what my end point needs to be. I copy every form and place them, and...

    $8000 bottle of booze!

I think you're talking about the Willett Pot Still bottle with the long neck. It's an excellent (but not cheap) whiskey, as is Willett's Rye. Rowan's Creek, Noah's Mill and Pure Kentucky are also worth purchasing. (I never tried Willett's lower-priced brands.) I read that the Pure Kentucky name...

    Washer & dryer notifications

I always buy the "Soviet model" when it comes to washers and dryers. Set all the knobs to "medium" and hope everything lasts for 20 years.

    $8000 bottle of booze!

It must have been 12-15 years ago (or more) that we toured the BT distillery. We also toured Woodford Reserve the same day. The latter is quite a quaint, picturesque place. I also recall the BT tour guide saying that former master distiller Elmer Lee, then in his 90s, would drop by every so...

    $8000 bottle of booze!

When I toured the Buffalo Trace distillery several years ago, the guide whispered to me that despite the 10 or so Buffalo Trace brands, there are only two mash recipes: wheated and unwheated. In other words, Eagle Rare, standard BT, Elmer Lee, Blanton's et al. are all the same at one day old...

Electrical wire nut might also be part of the solution.

Do you use a reminder sticker when you do your own oil change?

Grease pencil on masking tape under the hood: mileage, date, brand of oil. Date is most important because due to being retired and Covid, I don't put that many miles on my three cars, so it's once a year for oil changes.

BBQ on a Weber Kettle Grill,

I've used a standard Weber kettle for close to 50 years. A lot of people like everything tight to lock in the heat. I'm the opposite. I seek good air flow, so the smoke swirls inside the kettle and I don't have to worry about the charcoal going out. I remove the bottom vent attachment so the...

    RIP Robert Conrad

The villains on "Wild, Wild West" were delightful in their cartoonish way. Fun show to watch. "Black Sheep" was also highly entertaining. Mr. Conrad also was quite an on-screen ladies' man. RIP.

    used Caddy XTS????

I did similar. I'm a retiree and bought a low-mileage '15 LaCrosse off a lease two years ago this month. Similar to XTS, of course. Body and engine of both cars pretty much the same. Paid half of what a new LaCrosse costs. (Make my last car payment this week.) Been a nice car for me. Good...

Superbowl - What's the Final Score?

The game will go into OT tied at 45. Whoever wins the coin flip then wins the game -- like K.C. and Pats in AFC title game last year.

    Your Most Reliable Machines

Still using quarter-inch B&D drill from '70s. Corded obviously, with heavy steel exoskeleton. 8-gal plastic Craftsman shop-vac from early '80s is still working well. Motor will last longer than the hose, which is heavily taped. Had a $35 Timex Ironman digital watch last for about 25-30 years...
