1997 Chevy Cavalier lower radiator hose keeps detaching

Is there a shot motor mount? Maybe the engine is tugging a bit too much on the hose, when it torques over? Maybe your rad cap is not the right one, or coolant reservoir line is plugged? Or does it have an expansion tank? Maybe that is too full? What is the actual running temp of the engine?

Good Car Bad Car - VW making the tough business decisions

Don't they make only 8 platforms now? That includes EV's and the Audi line up. I think giving up on the small or simple car market to China, isn't a great long term strategy, as they lose the ability to do competitive cost effective engineering?

Undersized vent fan - good for anything?

One of those in the peak of the roof should move a lot of air. Is there lots of exposed steel roof on the interior side? I think with a steel roof, the thermal radiation from exposed steel will still heat up items in your attic. Maybe try a section of roof rafter channels, then the ridge...

Lawn mower batteries are junk even when new

My mower seems to charge the battery well enough, once I unplugged the head lights. They were on anytime the ignition was on for some reason? Before that, it wouldn't get the battery charged enough to start reliably after a week.

How susceptible are you to poison ivy?

I'm moderately sensitive now, after having a couple big exposures as a kid and teen. I try to avoid it, but if I do get some skin contact, it seems washing off as soon as I can, works to avoid any major rash. We have a lot of it in areas and stay out of there.

    When to Change Motor Mounts

As long as they don't allow "excessive" movement, then a bit of hardening or a some extra movement isn't a big deal. Have someone hold the brake and go from drive to reverse a few times to see how much slop there is now. Also, do some reading in some Honda forums, as there is likely a cheaper...

Study shows driving a manual transmission is good for your brain

Yes, some automatic drivers tendency to actually "stop and go" is a bit annoying! I have one of those intersections, but its only a 4-5 car back up, and oddly enough, idling in first gear is about the right speed... The odd dunce behind me takes a few seconds to understand why I'm not slamming...

    Open Source AI is Amazing

Yep, I do find many of the free options tend to give you the simplest answer it thinks you are looking for. Or sometimes spits out non-sensical statements on topics I know the subject matter, so it makes me a bit skeptical when researching something I know very little about. A follow up, "Are...

Need opinions- worth it to pay $1200 for new AC compressor on 19 y.o. SAAB?

If you've been keeping up on all the regular maintenance, and have a decent garage that doesn't rip you off, then keeping it for a while might make the most sense. But I find if I don't do the part swapping myself, then a 20 year old car can cost more per year than a new one, plus the...

The forbidden Transmission, at least it seems so.

In theory, the steel belt or chain is always separated from the sheaves by a layer of oil, in boundary lubrication. But is still gripping enough to transmissionfer some hp. This is why I don't think generic CVT fluids are a great idea, but in practice they seem to work well enough, and better...

Journey to find the best cardio care

Broadly, yes, that's what most medical doctors are taught, and its mostly true, if you eat predominantly unprocessed foods. Natural fibre is important, to allow a good gut biome as well. Lots processed foods will shorten most people's lifespan though, IMO. For sure you can wreck your health...

Which top tier gas for older cars?

I was stopping in for my 87 Rez gas yesterday and the fuel tanker was there and they had the pumps shut off while the tanker was unloading. I had never seen a station do that before? It was an "Econo" branded truck and they are a big wholesaler in Ontario that also supplies many Esso and...

Chinese authorities are not restricting coal power growth in the new five-year energy plan

I don't know why we "compete" with China at all? I get why big business wanted their goods for cheap, but overall I think its been proven that there hasn't been much of net benefit for 1st world democratic countries? We don't need them and never did, but the lure of cheap goods, from lax...

Rental Car Review: 2023 Escape "Active" AWD - 3 Cylinders, 1 Awful Transmission

Yep, I usually find the bigger displacement NA 4 cylinders quite fine for regular driving too. I've only been in the regular Prius, but I can see how a bit bigger NA engine makes that drivetrain work very well in a RAV4 or Camry hybrid.

The forbidden Transmission, at least it seems so.

These fellows seem to have it figured out? I've always thought there must be a transmission shop in most towns like this, but that might be wishful thinking? We've always drove manuals, until recently so I've never had transmission problem to repair? Also I guess once you slip the chain on the...
