How effective do you think this oil cooler is? (with pics)

https://www.heat-exchangers.uk/online-calculator/ Probably with this and some heat gun readings you could get a good idea. With sump oil temps that high I'd think its doing something as there could be a 40-50F temperature difference between the oil and the coolant.

    Old Floor Jack

Just check the pivots under the saddle pad, my chinesium AL one had the leveler arm upper pivot pin fail from the C-clip falling off the end. I never noticed but they left almost no material after the grove and it bent over and failed... Nothing fell but not great for a simple engineering...

Any cheap / free ideas to cool a garage?

I've never tried one, but a cooled vest could work, like one with pockets for ice packs. I think you'd have to be a bit careful you don't over cool yourself. I do the opposite in the winter, and you can work down to 15-20F with bare hands and wrenches if your core is a touch warm and your...

Do hybrids last as long as naturally aspirated engine and do they make sense?

I think the Plug-in Hybrids could be a bit tough on the gas engine. I've been behind a few plug in Prius at 55mph climbing a hill in the winter, when the engine starts up, and you can smell the fuel and maybe a bit of oil going through the dead cold cat? I suspect the total engine running...

New August record temp in Phoenix

It is amazing what you can stand in a sauna with the air dry, 180F for quite a while, but throw some water on the rocks or get some air moving, and then it feels real warm! 118F outside touching metal stuff in sun would be hard to take though. Rare steak is not much warmer!

Have you ever met a youtuber in person?

https://www.youtube.com/@AndreLaurentMTB/videos This guy rides all the trails in Southern Ontario and I spotted him in the parking lot at one of our local trails, nice enough guy, and is pretty much the same as in his videos. If I am going somewhere new I'll skim through his video to see what...

In light of GM's recent viscosity change for the 6.2 V8

Running a good synthetic 0W30 or 5W30 would be fine. Does it lug a bit around town? Holding high gears at ~1400rpm for a while? My Outback does this a bit, so I went to 0W30. I don't do oil analysis, but IMO it can't hurt anything and only help. Probably of greater importance on our...

    Retiring early... Geographic arbitrage

Are you into history? Armenia has been a busy busy place for 1000's of years. As I am getting older I am thinking more about retiring as well and wouldn't have thought about Armenia, but it does seem like it would be an interesting spot to spend some time for not too much money.

    Retiring early... Geographic arbitrage

Armenia sounds interesting! How is the geopolitical situation there? It is interesting how some of these "new" nations reformed after the soviet union collapsed are doing pretty good.

USA made PTO wood chippers on sale

I guess as long as its kept in good shape, stored inside, it will be worth that much or more when you are done with it.

Bacon: which kind do you prefer?

From the grocery store Presidents Choice Old Fashion Style is good, comes in 2.2lb packages and is cut maybe twice as thick as normal bacon, which is perfect, and they don't seem to inject any water into it. We have made our own but it seems we over salt it or over smoke it. My other favorite...

Really hard to pay for gas after 8 years of EVs.

Do you account for the charger/battery loses? Around 10-20% depending on how full you want to get the EV battery. For your electricity rate it hardly matters, and it makes a lot of sense to run an EV. I roughed out the numbers for me, and at 20 cents/kwh, plus cold weather(battery needs to be...

Well I screwed up my yard in a big way today

In my surfing I think I saw China had some spectracide chemicals on its suspected carcinogen list... My theory is that the chemical companies always have the next version of these products developed with a different enough chemistry to be "new". Then they wait for the last one to be proven bad...

Why does the bigger and heavier model get better MPG?

Probably the big Outlander has a lower aero drag coefficient, and I guess DI can get some more efficiency at lower rpms than regular FI. I assume the little Sport has mostly 2000's KISS car tech and less or no thought to under car aero and grill shutters, etc. If you are mostly doing hwy then...
