Unexplained slight rise in oil level

That's my concern, I drive mostly highway miles, but I did idle for an hour or so recently while working on a radio and short tripped it more than usual. Will extended highway driving at 75 mph burn down any excess fuel in the oil? I've read conflicting reports on if fuel can be burned off like...

Unexplained slight rise in oil level

After I change the oil in my 17 Tundra, my dipstick usually shows around 7/8 towards the full mark, and shortly after my 45,000 mile change, it also showed somewhere around the 7/8 mark after a new Toyota filter and 8 quarts of Mobil 1 (I even tried to get every drop out of the Mobil 1...

    Dealerships and gear oil viscosity

I was so concerned about micro metal shavings getting in the oil after tearing a hole in the lid that I used paint filters to filter it all out. Airplane mechanics use a special church key that will not produce micro metal particles when cutting a hole in cans.

    Dealerships and gear oil viscosity

Do dealerships carry bulk 75w85? Or so they have to use those stupid metal 1 liter cans? I did the transfer case with Toyota's recommended fluid and it came in a metal can, and those cans suck!

    Dealerships and gear oil viscosity

Just for an update, it bothered me enough to call and talk to the manager. He told me to bring it back in next week and they would put the correct fluid in it.

    Dealerships and gear oil viscosity

Alright, I do my best to so my own maintenance for my 2017 Toyota Tundra but life has really kicked me in the teeth this year, and I chose to let the Toyota dealership change out the rear and front differential oil. The owners manual states to use LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent. I get the receipt...

Thanks to everyone, I appreciate it!

    OCD and dipstick reading

My Tundra requires 7.9 quarts of oil with a new filter, and despite adding 8 quarts, the dipstick never reflects full, and yes, it's checked in garage on level ground. When checked hot after 20 minutes or so, it shows about 7/8 full between the add and full mark. When checked cold, it shows...

    Concern about new TC fluid

Yep, it's OEM, https://www.oempartsource.com/oem-p...27evX4AIVBLbACh3G8QaDEAQYASABEgL7v_D_BwE I have no idea, maybe punching a hole in the top with a small manual boy scout style can opener and pouring it into another container that I could pump from. I used one of the kitchen style that you...

    Concern about new TC fluid

I just changed the fluid in my transfer case today in my 17 Tundra, and I used the recommended factory Toyota transfer case oil. The oil came in two 1 liter cans, and I used a can opener to peel back the lid in order to pump the fluid out. After it was all said and done, while I was cleaning up...

Tundra transfer case plug torque (Borg Warner)

Thanks everyone, I haven't had a chance to drain and swap the fluid yet, but I did crawl under there this morning, and the drain plug was about half of a turn from being snug (no leaks). I have never dealt with tapered plugs before, and the fact that it was about half a turn loose from the...

Tundra transfer case plug torque (Borg Warner)

I'm assuming it's probably pipe thread. The plug felt like it could easily be tightened when I put my socket wrench on it.

Tundra transfer case plug torque (Borg Warner)

I've got a 2017 Toyota Tundra, and while preparing to change the transfer case fluid, I noticed it has the new style 3/8" drive plugs with plumber's tape on the threads. Has anyone dealt with these plugs on a Borg Warner Tundra transfer case? I've heard the torque ratings ratings are somewhere...

    Oil thickness on the dipstick

I rarely check my oil when the engine is warm, but today it had me wondering what causes the oil to appear thinner near the top of the dipstick? 2/3 of the level between low and full is very visible with oil while the top 1/3 is very thin and virtually clear. When held at an angle under good...

Dealetship oil change burned me for the last time.

Because the oil was not clear like new synthetic. It was changed, but it was slightly darker as if it was mostly new with a little old.
