johnmyster, I agree with your logic. While I love the Supertech Full Synthetic 5W40 option...wanting to use the same oil in all 3 applications makes me lean toward choosing ESP since it is less viscous and flows better at low temps (with likely equal performance at high temps).
I'm not sure...
Fantastic, I'm fine with the ST for high temp, zinc content, etc. Since I do use the Gator in the winter and now may use the tractor I just obtained occasionally in the winter...it makes me lean toward the 5W40 ESP for cold weather operation. In my area, typical winter lows are in the negative...
This table compares the main differences between the additives in these two oils (but neglects the comparison of the base oils in each). This data is from VOAs posted here on BITOG.
The ST is a thicker oil, no doubt. How much would this affect the engines in cold weather is the question I...
Is this VOA for the Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W40 still what Mobil is producing? I know some mfg's change formulations over the years is why I ask...but in this VOA, it appears the Mobile has good amounts of zinc and and it's also a good base oil IIRC. I also like the 13.03 viscosity at 100C noting...
I have equipment with diesel engines on 3 pieces of equipment and each has a slightly different oil spec. Here they are along with the "recommended oil":
* Exmark Zero Turn Mower - 25 HP Kubota diesel: CD or CE 10W30 or 10W40
* John Deere Gator - 855mL Yanmar diesel: 15W40 diesel oil
* Case IH...
Scott, I would love to see your UOA of the Super Tech 15w-40 Full Synthetic diesel oil! Considering that oil for yard equipment...25hp diesel tractor, John Deere Gator, and ExMark Zero Turn mower with a 25HP Kubota engine. I'm especially interested in the cold weather performance as 2/3 of my...
The misleading part of the specs that is easily identifiable is the "mid-SAPS' label on the original PDS. I didn't understand it is impossible to be a mid-SAPS oil and meet the other specs they claimed. After emailing Triax, they sent me the updated PDS I posted above and stated they would be...
MattPersman, I ordered this oil before I received feedback that the specs were misleading. Since I have it on-hand, I'm sending off a VOA of this oil today. If it comes back as expected and looks safe, I'll likely use it for my first oil change (bought the Gladiator with 19K miles on it so not...
kschachn, I read their website and ordered the oil before posting here...which triggered all the negative posts to make me suspect. There may be history of previous discussions here but I recently joined and wasn't aware of those discussions.
I appreciate everyone's comments and feedback. It is a learning experience for me.
So there is no confusion, I purchased the Triax Euro LX oil (not "VX") 5w-40 as that was the one Triax recommended since it supposedly meets the Chrysler MS-12991 standard. And it was apparently mislabeled as...
You are correct it appears. Looks like Triax is changing their product data sheet to state “full-SAPS” and remove “”mid-SAPS” claiming their SA is around 1.12.
