    2.5 Tech 4 What oil?

Johnny-O must a big fan of custom cars! This was posted from another forum, I don't want to take credit: Some history of the Iron Duke... [I] Okay...early motors, such as those used in the Chevy II (153 cid) are basically a 194 six cylinder with a couple of cylinders missing. They share the...

    2.5 Tech 4 What oil?

I just picked up a 1990 Cutlass Calais with the 2.5... It was my great aunt's car who quit driving (she is 91). It has 132,000 on it, my cousin (who was in charge of work done on car) told me the bottom end had been redone, but not the head. Upon replacing the valve cover gasket this confirmed...

    Uh Oh, low oil pressure!

Yes, 20W50 isn't avail in Pennzoil High-Mileage as far as I have ever seen. The oil pressure still is low. Ah well.

    Uh Oh, low oil pressure!

I opted for 5 quarts of Valvoline Max-Life 20W50 as it was given to me, along with a FL-1A. The oil pressure went up a little, it's slighly above zero now when at a warm idle, and about 25 psi when cruising. I'd really like to get it up to 25 or 30 at idle but that's probably not possible w/o...

    Uh Oh, low oil pressure!

It originally had a 302, it now has a late 70s motor. I think I might run it until it kicks the bucket. Thanks for the help.

    Uh Oh, low oil pressure!

Yeah, I drive about 150 miles a week so it is excessive. The confusing part is that the engine seems to run fine, doesn't leak and is more or less quiet, as no knocking or ticking. At higher RPMS you can hear some valvetrain noise but not like it wants to "BLOW UP" or anything.

    Uh Oh, low oil pressure!

At about 3000-3500 RPM its at about 30 PSI. It's not a very high revving motor, anyway.

    Uh Oh, low oil pressure!

I have been running my 72 Ford pickup for about a year with the stock gauges and noticed that the pressure gauge was always on the lower end but never worried about it. Today I installed all new custom gauges and was pleased to see that it idled at 50 PSi when cold... I drove it around the block...

CAM2 oil filters... Who made em?

I found a bunch of these for sale for a Ford (PH8A equivelent). Any good in comparison to the FL-1A? Thanks

    Jeep 4.0&GC

I had a 1993 and a 1997. The '97 simply made valvetrain noise at idle, more when warm then cold IIRC. I purchased it with 60K miles and used Mobil 1 10W30 and either a K&N, Mobil or PureOne filter every 4000 miles. I sold it with 120K on it and no leaks or consumption of any kind. I had tried...

I did for a brief period.... There seemed to be too much engine noise for my tastes.

    Shelf life of oil ?

I really don't know how long it lasts - But I recently changed the oil in my friend's trucks with oil he found in his garage.... Pennzoil in METAL CANS! They had to be like 25 years old. He hasn't had a problem. Maybe you could use the stuff for in the winter months on stuff that isn't used...

What is your OCI and brand of oil being used?

2000 Ranger 4.0 - M1 5W30, 6 mos or 6K mi... FL-1A Motorcraft filter. Thinking of switching to Rotella 5W-40 to quiet valvetrain noise a bit. It mostly gets short trip driving. 1997 Subaru Outback - M1 15W50 summer, thinking of Rotella 5W40 for winter. I was using M1 10W30 year round but am...

My First Post!! Which Oil For My Hot Rod???

I ran M1 15W50 in a built 289. Make sure that the rings have seated and the engine is truely broken in, as mine burned a good bit of it (1,000 miles on motor) so I switched to Pennzoil 10W30 for winter storage. Under racing and heavy duty use, Mobil 1 should do the trick.
