Check oil level cold or warm?

Thank you for the replies. It is the base model Corvette with the LS2 engine. What's interesting is that the manual not only gives you this 15 minute window in which to check, it actually goes so far as to say that cold readings are inaccurate, or words substantially similar to that effect.

Check oil level cold or warm?

The owner's manual to my new (to me) 2007 Corvette says to check oil after the car has been turned off - wait five minutes, but no more than 20 minutes - to get an accurate reading. I've been operating my whole adult life on the principle that only a cold reading is truly accurate. When did...

Have you been ripped-off by a rebate?

In January, I took advantage of two rebate offers - or so I thought. On the positive side was my experience with Castrol. I purchased six quarts of Syntec, mailed in the appropriate paperwork, and received my $10 rebate check quickly. Bravo Castrol. I also responded to an ad in the Sunday LA...

    Question about Clutch Lubrication

2003 Ford F150, 5-speed manual transmission, 14,800 miles Bought this truck with 11,300 miles on it and subsequently replaced the original manual transmission fluid (Ford Mercon ATF) with the appropriate Mobil-1 ATF for this appplication. Shortly thereafter, the clutch started to emit a groan...

    Can magnets keep oil cleaner?

And don't I feel like a dummy for not doing a search on this before posting.....

    Can magnets keep oil cleaner?

Rare earth magnets are amazingly strong. I've attached a disc shaped one to the exterior bottom of my oil filter, thinking at least some of the magnetic force would pass through the filter and perhaps catch and hold iron-based particulates. Has anyone had any success with this concept...

    Volvo XC70

I bought a new '05 XC70 last October. So far, it has been great (13,000 miles). I like it's look much better than the standard wagon, it averages 20+ MPG, and I'm tall so I like that it sits a little higher. It has plenty of power, and the seats are very comfortable. My only concerns since...

    The Volvo Fluid Mystery

2005 Volvo XC70 12,200 miles My Volvo has a bevel gear, which has its own fluid compartment. I've scanned not only this site but the Volvo site as well and there is an ongoing conflict of information about what type of fluid is used for the bevel gear. Some threads would have you believe it is...

    Which Mityvac?

2005 Volvo XC70 After reading a number of posts on how to change the "bevel gear oil" (which I've deduced is Mobil 3309ATF)in my Volvo, I'm ready to buy a Mityvac hand pump unit and give it a shot. I may use this same device for an ATF change as well. Which model suits these tasks best?

    Does "reddish" oil indicate heat?

2005 Volvo XC 70 Turbo, 6,000 miles Left the Volvo factory fill in for 1,000 miles, then switched to Chevron dino until 3,000, then switched to Chevron synthetic. I know, I know, not a true synthetic, but you can see my logical progression. At 6,000, switched to Mobil 1, but could not help...

    Alternative for factory Volvo ATF

2005 Volvo XC70 Cross Country I'm a new Volvo owner and a fluid change maniac. I want to change the ATF in the pan every 10,000 miles but cannot afford Volvo's proprietary blend. On the site XC70.com, some onwers talk about Mobil 3309 - apparently a non-synthetic - being the exact same...

    Changing Brands

I believe a lot of folks will be interested in your NEO analysis. NEO apparently has quite a fan base in racing circles, but opinions on street applications are nil. Because they are local for me, I acquired enough of their 10/30 for my last oil change. My engine is running fine and in 1300...
