I don't know that much about transmissions is it replaceable from underneath and if not would it damage anything if it is not reattached?

I am doing my first atf change on a 2005 Pontiac Montana SV6 and after removing the transmission pan I found what appears to be a tiny filter sitting in the bottom of the pan I would appreciate any help identifying this before I start putting things back together.
