    Sped up reruns suck

Network and cable TV is for the most part astoundingly bad, I can't believe people voluntarily watch it.

    Oreo cookies

Newman-Os are the way to go. Fig Newmans, too, they taste like Fig Newtons used to, back when they were good.

    Fans slow to start

Dave's right about the meter work. You'd need to desolder the cap or otherwise take it out of the circuit to do any good measurements on it. Off hand, I'd say it's a lube issue / mechanical.

Sewer clog between street trap and house

Call the plumber, they'll bring out the big snake and fix it up. If there are roots now and you don't plan to replace the pipe, just plan on calling the plumber annually to clear it out. No big deal.

    Super Noisy Generator

Build a box. Line it with carpet / other sound deadening. Make sure it has some degree of ventilation. Probably about as much work as fabbing up a new exhaust, but better results.

    Undercover Jewel singing

Once you know what to listen for, pitch correction is EVERYWHERE. I'm not talking about that deliberately overdone style, I mean in "normal" pop music. It's nauseating.

    Anyone owns a baby Glock?

Quote: If the 1st time gun owner has a jam in a Glock in an emergency, what happens? Panic...because it never did that at the range. I bet that an owner of a Keltec can react instantly after an FTF or stovepipe. He won't let the reliability of the Glock get to his head when he can afford to...

New York in the 1970's - awesome pics!

Terrific collection of pics! But I'm -so- glad not to live in that festering hive. :) And just think, the edges of the metro area have metastasized even further in the last 40 years... Yeah, yeah, I know, progress and all that. Driving from Manhatten to Montauk, I ponder on the difference...

    Inheritance tax

This is rubbish. No way we should pay tax of any kind on inheritance, IMO. Isn't there a generally-practiced way to avoid the government's thieving hand through a trust and so forth?

    Do you protect your hearing?

WEAR PROTECTION Plugs plus muffs is good, fitted plugs are great. As a classical musician in the wind section, I've been exposed to far too much noise for more than 20 years. Even as a fairly young man, I have a small deficit in the range that's normally first affected; tinnitus, too. Gotta be...

    District 9

Quote: Perhaps it was just breaking down in the wrong neighborhood and trying to navigate your way out of it as discretely as possible while rolling with the punches. That's exactly it. If they'd had everything they needed, they surely wouldn't have helplessly stayed in the mothership wallowing...
